Obama to Palin: 'Don't Mock the Constitution'
By Peter Slevin
FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. -- Sen. Barack Obama delivered an impassioned defense of the Constitution and the rights of terrorism suspects tonight, striking back at one of the biggest applause lines in Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin's speech to the GOP convention.
It was in St. Paul last week that Palin drew raucous cheers when she delivered this put-down of Obama: "Al-Qaeda terrorists still plot to inflict catastrophic harm on America and he's worried that someone won't read them their rights."
Obama had a few problems with that.

Looks like Sen. Obama’s aged 10 years?
No problem. Just flash that big smile ! Show over substance.
Ought to be good for a million or so more votes !
“at WAR with us.”
Meanwhile, every day thousands of Americans line up like cattle each day in their stocking feet holding a quart-sized baggie with their liquid items inside, waiting hours to board their flight. AS A DIRECT RESULT OF WHAT THOSE 8 DID (plus that other berk for the shoes).
The Constitution does not grant rights to enemy combatants on foreign battlefields, you idiot. Those people are trying to kill us. It will be cold comfort to the dead that you are able to hold a trial and MAYBE get a conviction on a lesser offense.
Is Obama talking about the SAME Constitution that
Al Gore wanted to treat as a “living” document in order to expedite his socialist power grab aims?
Is Obama talking about the SAME Constitution that four/ocassionally five liberal chief justices demean their own position by showing blatant contempt for?
Is Obama talking about the SAME Constitution that Liberals have stomped on, and aim to obliterate if given the opportunity?
Heck, I have a BIG problem with what she said.
The terrorists have NO rights under the US Constitution. Remember the US Consitution is for US, not THEM.
It ain’t a friggin law enforcement issue. It is war. They don’t even get Geneva Convention protections, they are f#cking scum terrorists.
Terrorists who are detained as enemy combatants in Iraq and Afghanistan have no Miranda rights. That should be obvious to Mr Lawyer.
“Shes gotten under his skin, big time.”
Indeed.
Interesting comment from a guy at work this evening. The subject of the Palin/Biden debate came up, and he said he’d rather see Palin debate Obama himself.
Come to think of it, Ms. Palin may get that chance, in either 2012 or 2016! That is, if Obama is still even a senator by then....

When you see an Obama sign, put a diagonal line through the “O.” The you can pronounce it “Zerobama.”
(things that make you say, "Hmmmm...")
Not if they are not in uniform, per the Geneva conventions, and thus “illegal combatants”.
When soldiers dress like civilians, what “honor” they gain is in a circle of cowards.
Could someone please inform obama that “Miranda” doesn’t appear anywhere in the constitution. Just keep sticking your foot in your mouth Obama. I love it.
He’s publicly adopting the failed security policies of the Clinton Administration - treating terrorism like a law enforcement problem.
I know the Dems are dropping like a stone with security issues, but I highly doubt adopting Clinton’s policies are the answer. The problem is, they can’t very well embrace Bush’s policies because their campaign strategy is to align McCain with Bush. What else do they have? Oh, yeah. Carter.
Hey you guys, give Obambi a break. He may be talking about the Kenyan Constitution and not the American.
I thought the constitution was a “dead letter” written by a bunch of old dead white slave owner guys. An outmoded document that needs retooling by the Democrats.....get it now???
We should start referring to McCain’s whole campaign as the “McBrillant Campaign” from now on!
Perfect game of “Rope-A-Dope”. Zero and Plugs obsess over Sarah instead of going after their intended target, while McCain sits on the sidelines, virtually unscathed. Free ride, indeed! LOL
The question, as I see Barack framing it, is, "Does the U.S. Constitution apply to those outside the United States?" If, as Sen. Obama implies, it does, then he needs to call out all countries that deny rights guaranteed by OUR Constitution to their citizens. Is he willing to take on muslim countries that deny freedom of religion? or press? I think not. What about muslim counties that treat women as second or third class citizens? Sen. Obama's silence is deafening. Is he willing to call out Don't bet on it.
IMHO, Constitutional protections stop at our border. They cannot (and should not) be extended to the citizens other contries via caveat. Otherwise, the U.S. is faced with declaring war on every country that does not honor the God given rights enumerated in the Untied States Constitution.
“...I think there should be a pool on FR about what date this guy completely spazzes out. He can not conceptualize the idea that there are people who do not like him. He is a mental case”.
Yeah, OK, I’m game, but we have to decide exactly what meets the ‘spazzing out’ standard. He spazzes out when he makes an outrageous racist claim against either the Republican nominees or the current administration (the guv’mint invented AIDS, for example). He’s spazzed out when he’s 100% undeniably made a huge gradeskool mistake, like insisting in a debate that there are 57 states in the Union, then afterwards trying to gloss it over by saying he meant ‘57 varieties of Heinz Ketchup’ or some-such. Anyway, the spazz-out event should be obvious.
I predict total spazz-out to occur before the first debate(s). He’ll be toast before he ever goes one-on-one.

Is he willing to call out allies that deny citizens the right to keep and bear arms? Probably not.
