Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin will speak at her sons Army deployment ceremony on 9/11 and spend two days with ABC News crews later this week as part of a McCain campaign plan to increase Americans comfort with her as a strong leader.
Campaign and network officials had said on Sunday that her first television interview would be a sit-down with Charles Gibson of ABCs World News.
But it turns out that she is spending much of Thursday and Friday with Gibson at the ceremony in Fairbanks, Alaska, and at her home in Wasilla, Alaska.
Campaign aides said the anchorman will get extensive, repeated access to Palin throughout her first trip home since becoming the nominee.
ABC News will have plenty of time to question her and examine her and spend time with her, a campaign official said. Theyll do multiple interviews over two days. No topics are off-limits there are no ground rules. Theres tons of time to talk to her about every topic.
The remarkable rollout reflects new confidence in Palin by her handlers, who initially had suggested it would be a while before she did interviews. Now, there will be several.

Palin 2.0 is about to be launched!
Good, she needs to explain the earmarks criticisms and why she keeps talking about the bridge to nowhere in bumper sticker sloganeering fashion. She should be able to bat it down.
Sounds like Obama needs to spend more time with OPRAH explaining himself and how he could be a good leader in the Presidency -— so far, all he has done, is CONVINCE THE WORLD he is not fit, in MANY ways, to be president...
BRILLIANT!!
Palin will be on her home ground among familiar faces and surroundings - and the emotion of saying goodbye to her son will show another side of the woman she is.
She is multifaceted and in her many roles, the people who
see her in this setting will have an opportunity to know more of her - not just the campaigner - but the woman, wife, and mother.
Caveat: If Gibson and ABC can resist the obvious slant they will no doubt try to work into the mission.
I know this is a bit awkward, but I do hereby volunteer to assist with the examination. Just sayin'.
I am in serious awe of the McCain campaign. This scenario is a stroke of freaking genius on their part. Keep her away from the media so long that they’re all salivating, then give them access to her in the place where she is most comfortable-—on her own turf. By the time this airs, there will be HUGE pent-up public curiosity about her.
gibson willbe as fair as any and respectful
“Palin 2.0 is about to be launched”
—or unleashed—here comes another cluster for the dems lol
I guess OLBERMANN AND MATTHEW wont be interviewing anytime soon. Good for MSNBC, they used to have some very good programming and especially commentators & guests. I hope it returns to that format.
Yes on the MCCAIN PALIN terms. Look at how the media have treated her already. They simply want a chance to destroy her in their own good old boy SEXIST way.
Agreed. They’ve done a masterful job of late.
This is a risk. If she makes a gaff or mis speaks it could be a problem but I don’t think she will. She can guess the questions. Troopergate, Spending, Creationism, Global Warming, Her religion, and her daughter. Sarah is smart and well coached —she will turn this into a victory. There is a reason she is so popular in Alaska. Even the State Trooper she tried to have fired says nice things about her.
Re#7 Agreed, and she will charm Gibson as well. ABC is also going to get a huge ratings and, so as not to be embargoed in the future, will probably be fair.
I hope she has industrial strength secret service protection.
Terrific. Thank you. So far, Todd is with Sarah every step of the way; what a guy!
I rather she be shot and killed Kennedy style than run this country to destruction with her shytty 1960 views.
