Raleigh, N.C. On the heels of a successful Republican convention Barack Obamas lead in Michigan is down to just a single point. He has a 47-46 advantage over John McCain.
The selection of Sarah Palin as the Republican Vice Presidential candidate appears to be a hit with Michigan voters. 45% of respondents say they are more likely to vote for McCain because of his running mate selection, while just 30% say Joe Biden joining the Democratic ticket makes them more likely to vote for Barack Obama.
---snip----
PPP surveyed 1,147 likely voters on September 6th and 7th. The surveys margin of error is +/-2.9%.

Thanks for posting. Very interesting.
Half of the population is on the government dole, and 120% of that half votes.
vaudine
Maybe FR can setup something with PUMA’s or Hillary supporters to mobilize in MI and PA. Let’s put alot of effort winiing these two states.
We can do this!
Every state has its unique playing field. That said, it is true that Palin will be a hit throughout this area, specifically with rural voters, suburban Moms, and independents.
Palin’s standing with the base also frees up McCain to appeal to independents and discerning Democrats.
Let’s hope that McCain has a better first debate performance than Bush had with Kerry. Bush did so lousy that night that he converted what should have been a slam dunk into a close race instead.
The first debate is also a podium-style debate, not the sit-down “town hall” that McCain prefers. And all the networks will declare BO the overwhelming winner.
“Half of the population is on the government dole, and 120% of that half votes. “
As a MI resident, I think you summed it up correctly. unfortunately.
Yeah, but did these poll numbers include the graveyards?
With the “Sarah Bounce” McCain has likely taken the lead in Ohio, Colorado, New Hampshire and possibly Pennsylvania, while strengthening his lead in Florida. I’ll bet New Mexico is a dead heat now. Palin has skinned and mounted Obama in the Rockies.
Hillary will not join the ticket as VP.
No way, no how - her experience is less than Palin’s, too.
She knows from HER internal polling and focus groups that snObama’s hosed even if she were the VP, and that such a move could even make his lose worse.
She’s gonna half heartedly play good soldier.
The Mich Republicans have been running an ad that shows Obama heaping praise on Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick, and then has a scrolling text showing the felonies Kwame just pled guilty to running across the screen. Devastating. Also the Gov of Mich ahs one of the lowest approval ratings in the country, so the voters there have had their fill of crooked Dem politicnas and Obama is indeed in trouble.
Doesn’t help that Obama failed to speak up on Mayor Kilpaticks behalf and after he pled guilty, Obama disowned him faster than Bill Ayers and Rev Wright. The detroit black political establishment (mafia) is pissed at Barry for not standing up for the Mayor, even if the Mayor was a crook. Will be hard to get the vote out in Detroit if people there are pissed at Barry O. No huge Dteroit vote and Barry loses Michigan,. plain and simple.
Funny you should mention Washington - No matter the current “polls”, I believe a strong likelihood WA will go for McCain/Palin. They love independents there.
Yeah, then we’re going to South Carolina and Oklahoma and Arizona and North Dakota and New Mexico, and we’re going to California and Texas and New York ... And we’re going to South Dakota and Oregon and then we’re going to Washington, D.C., to take back the White House!YEEAARGH!
I couldn’t resist.
um, er, ahh, I belive the only way Obama wins any of the debates is if they get to use teleprompters and Barry just has to read his answers off it! He is terrible in thinking and speaking on his feet. He stumbles, bumbles, ers, and ahhs his way through the Sunday talk shows, why do you think a live debate against an opponent who has different views than you will be any different?
Don’t underestimate the pressure factor. Barry has NEVER been in a tough race, and as his ‘Muslim Faith’ yesterday shows, he is feeling the heat already.
The Clintons were correct about one overriding fact:
BO won the nomination in states that he will lose in November. BO lost the primary in NY, CA, MA, CT, NJ, PA, OH, MI (not on the ballot), IN, FL, and TX, almost all of which are rich in electoral votes.
The only states in which BO showed any real strength that matters for November are Wisconsin and Virginia.
If McCain wins, this will be seen as one of the stupidest moves and inept decisions that the MSM ever tried to impose upon the American people.
Agree with you. Mountain states are solid for McCain/Palin now, as are the major battleground states of last election: PA & FL.
The only question right now about the size of the landslide is the number who will climb on the “Palin Bandwagon” just to say “I helped make history.”
Soon the Demodogs will be giving up on the presidency, and focusing their attention on Congress instead “to counter the radical Republican ticket”.
WA rednecks are gonna rise again! They have been bullied into submission for too long by the environmental fascists and other leftists. I can’t wait!
(We don’t have to even take the state just inch up within two, then have a few “small town” rallies....and watch Obama and Biden sweep in to salvage a Democratic stronghold....thus ensuring victory elsewhere for us!)
BO threw him under the bus faster than he did his grandmother.
The Mich Republicans have been running an ad that shows Obama heaping praise on Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick”
Yes! I was “producing” this ad in my head yesterday and hoping that MI GOP was on the ball enough to do it. This should go over well in the Reagan Democrat strongholds!
We are going to take MI!
I'm confident my state will break Hussein's back, and put the dem party in a wheelchair for a good long while.
All the signs are here. Obama is so desperate he has to shore up his union thug base in Michael Moore's hometown of Flint as I type.
