Gov. Palin looks just as good without them. but I must say she looks good in those frames as well. It is a testament to the fact that optical frames come and go with the fasion of the times... Buddy Hollidays (aka birth control {BC} super retro)frames do look good on some people.
Though of course not on a guy like me.

She looks good in the black frame glasses, too, so it isn't the rimless glasses. It isn't the glasses at all. Its the person wearing the glasses and the way they carry themselves and portray themselves. And she did it without showing cleavage or having a skirt barely covering her butt. Classy.

Sarah Palin puts a lot of effort into not looking like a beauty queen. Behind the glasses, the formless suits, and the ridiculous Diana Moon Glampers-approved hairdo, is an attempt to divert attention from her looks so people will take her more seriously.

Of course, when you are as attractive as Palin is, there is only so much you can do.

How tall is she? I had the impression she was of average height--around 5'5"--because she's shorter than John McCain, who is around 5'7".

I think she works very hard to avoid being perceived as sexy. Somewhere I saw a quotation about those glasses, how she chose to wear them and put her hair up in order to avoid being perceived as sexy when she wanted to be taken seriously as a governor.
