The culture war's decisive battle has begun.
The Ameican Thinker ^ | September 8, 2008 | Herbert E. Meyer

In every war there is one decisive battle. This battle doesn't end the war; a great deal of hard fighting lies ahead. But in retrospect it's the moment when one side's ultimate victory -- and the other side's ultimate defeat -- were sealed. In our Civil War this decisive battle was Gettysburg. In World War II, it was Midway.

Unexpectedly -- perhaps even astonishingly -- this year's presidential campaign is shaping up as the decisive battle in the Culture War that's been tearing apart our country for decades.

On one side are the Traditionalists. We believe that church and State should be separate, but that religion should remain at the center of life. We are a Judeo-Christian culture, which means we consider those ten things on a tablet to be commandments, not suggestions.

An excellent read on one of the least expected consequences of this year's election.

Palin explodes the left’s central tenets and feminism’s role in the left’s power plays.

She is a Rorschach test for many, but those who knew about her (on the right, from blogs) had a pretty good idea of her beliefs months ago.

We just didn’t know she would cause spontaneous implosion on the left.

But I can deal with that.

Thanks McCain (or Rove).

Looks to be an interesting read. I especially liked this part:

We are a Judeo-Christian culture, which means we consider those ten things on a tablet to be commandments, not suggestions.

I’m still pinching myself like it’s all a dream: He didn’t pick Pawlenty, Rudy, Huckleberry, Liebermann, Hutchison, Ridge, Crist, Mitt or one of the other “safe” choices. John McCain is either very lucky or very smart...

McCain has shown himself to be a very shrewd man. He made a lot of mistakes in 2000, namely becoming the media’s favorite Republican. This time he’s their opponent. And he’s shown us that the maverick thing cuts two ways. That alone has made him worthy of our support.

And I’ve been one of the hardest line McCain opponents on the board for ages.

Just like “someone” is helping 0bama, a different “someone” is now helping Juan. Most likely that Schmit(sp) guy along with polling and Juan’s desire to win.

The author does not overstate the case. If Obama wins it is the beginning of serious Socialism.

Look for a return of the Fairness Doctrine, more PC with possible hate speech laws, more taxes, less gun rights and every other crime against individual sovereignty the socialists have devised. And we will not come back from it without a revolution.

The country will turn into a giant Cook county with permanent corruption and a Nomenklatura of leftists to run it all, empowered by the client masses.

Excellent read which sums up quite a bit quite succinctly. For example highlighting the gridlock in Washington because of the tug-o-war between good and evil, or traditionalists and socialists.

I think this war started in 1992 though instead of today. Perot tapped into the disconnect we see now.

Anyhow, I feel we will lose unless we have lots more babies than them and get the Mexicans on board who are by nature conservative people, at least socially. The Socialist control everything - media - Hollywood and the high population centers. Does not look good long term.

Nice article. I enjoyed it very much. So very insightful, true, and deftly worded the two different sides as well as the varied types of war and which one we are presently in. Well drawn. I wonder could this election be the deciding factor or could it possibly be the first fire of the cannon?

A culture war is something very different from a WWII or a civil war.

Conservatives have been steadily losing the culture wars for decades. In order to understand this its helpful to understand that there are no culture wars in europe.

why not?

the liberals have won.

In order for conservatives to win — they first have to stop losing. that hasn’t really happened yet. I think that it will.

No matter what happens the whole “war” will take place over decades and centuries.

There will be in Europe. Blood will flow in the streets soon. At ~30% Islamic.

Traditionally, America wins.

I’m not quite sure what “culture war” means. From what I gather, it’s the people who work hard and pay their taxes, vs the people who hardly work and expect taxes will go to pay them. Am I wrong?

***I beg to differ on that score. I was pushing hard for just such a strategy with Duncan Hunter. There was even suggestions of a Hunter/Palin ticket. The media woulda had a heart attack.

You got it. Basically human assets vs. liabilities

And you got the rich latte liberals who who align themselves with the liabilities for power whom idealize socialism, sexual perversions, and ‘saving the planet.’

I know I still get goosebumps thinking about how courageous and ballsy and right on McCain's pick was. I think he is smart, savvy, bold, (clearly a maverick as he has stated) and definitely lucky :-). I do however think the man must be a man of faith. As this pick seemed to have a larger hand in it as well. In my experience people of faith can take larger risks easier and trust their instincts more often when they take them. Can you imagine this man at war versus Obama? Dang.

It is awesome Palin being picked. Amazing choice on so many levels! So glad you brought this up :-DDDDDDD!

The author is kidding himself. Conservatives lost the culture war decades ago largely due to excessive levels of tolerance. The hippies have taken over. I consider myself a counter-revolutionary fighting to roll back the leftist horde.
