In fact, the Arizona senator sounded downright giddy when he introduced her in Cedarburg. "Isn't this the most marvelous running mate in the history of this nation?" he said.
"He's pumped," McCain's longtime aide Mark Salter conceded after watching McCain and Palin in Albuquerque. "He's feeding off the crowds -- you've got these huge crowds, they're wildly enthusiastic and that's going to pump up any speaker. He loves campaigning with her."
The duo, who had scarcely met before becoming a team, have begun forging a friendship helped by their irreverent senses of humor, aides say.
The McCains and the Palins often sit together on the back of McCain's campaign bus. McCain is said to be fascinated by stories of caribou hunting, working the oil fields of Alaska's North Slope, snow-machining, dog sled races -- and he finds humor in the shock value of his running mate's extracurricular activities.
Palin has proved to be a confident and commanding presence in this tightly controlled environment. Though she nods and applauds attentively when he speaks, Palin does not gaze deferentially at McCain. Her eyes often wander over the supporters in the audience -- aware, perhaps, that many of them are there to see her.
In this honeymoon phase, many voters admit they know little about Palin's positions and background. But one sign in Albuquerque may have summed it up for Republican stalwarts: "Sarah -- you had us at hello."

Palin’s election at the convention is something deeper. An NRO article traced the left’s history from 1790s Paris (where the term literally came into use based on who lined up on what side of a tennis court, I believe), through Marx’s refinements and into this and the previous centuries. Feminism (as understood in the 70s) and its role in the left’s power struggles is also a part of that analysis.
What Palin does is shatter the feminist (which by the left’s definition are the only possible successful women) mystique.
She “should” be pro-choice, pro-BIGGOVERNMENT, pro-Universal Health Care and all the other shibboleths.
She is not, yet she is clearly a successful woman, even an attractive one. She cuts across the leftist construct of what women “should” be and what they “should” believe.
In the cliche, she EXPLODES THE LEFT’S PARADIGMS.
I’ll tell you, it’s contagious!
The MSM has moved from insane charges to gentle undercutting and snark.
Not a tennis court, but the French legiislative body. The socialists of the day were on the left, and the monarchists were on the right.
Meanwhile, on the Obama campaign bus, I don't think they're having much fun.
WOW!! A fair LA Times article. Hard to believe. Maybe they’re starting to believe (yeah, right). Anyway, a new tag line below:
Excellent observation. The enemies tactics are changing. Let's be prepared by hammering the left hard with their erroneous policies and stances.
See post #4. Dalight is right on target.
We need to hammer these chumps on every issue, continue to ridicule them as they deserve, and don't give up.
They (McCain-Palin) lack the easy camaraderie shared by Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama and his running mate, Joe Biden -- they sometimes chuckle over side conversations as they wave to the crowd.Ya mean like these 'side conversations'...
