Barack Obama switches off personality politics but Sarah Palin continues to electrify crowds

Barack Obama turned his gaze yesterday towards the economic storm gathering around ordinary Americans as he began trying to navigate an election landscape transformed over the past ten days by Sarah Palin.

The Democratic nominee, whose presidential bid has often been dominated by his compelling life story, said that he had developed a distaste for personality politics. “You know, this whole résumé contest is not what the American people are looking for,” he said. “I have to make it clear what is at stake in this election.”

Don't look now, but he wants to change the focus from qualifications (résumé) to "what is at stake in this election".

How is one exclusive of the other? I think he has lost it.

%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%

Umm, which compelling life story is that?

The one that he is only half white?

Obama may not be as stupid as he sounds. I think he realizes a personality fight is one he can no longer win.

Well the Demagogues always demagogue the heck out of “it’s the economy, stupid” ala Bill Clinton, but now it sounds as though they may try to put all their chips on whining about the economy. Not that Obama and Biden actually have any idea what to do for the economy, but it does make for easy talking points in demagogic speeches.

Personal Stories only matter if its about ME>.>>>ME>>>>ME....What a whiner... So nobody else can have a good personal story... If your not Obama you are not entitled to be President I guess...

Yea...just go away and let me eat my waffle. Don’t ask me to tell you anything about my background, all you have to know is that whatever I decided (about abortion) was “above my pay grade.” And, please, don’t mention my religion. McCain never questioned “My Muslim faith, errr Christian faith...ahhh, ummmm, uggggh.”

We’ve taken him out of his game. All he had before was the politics of personality and dissatisfaction with the Bush Administration. On substance, he was hiding the ball the way all democrats do.

Now his big argument is a negative—George Bush is bad, elect me. Didn’t work too well for the R’s in 2006 when our best argument was “Elect us, we don’t suck as much as the dems.”

In effect, Barak, sans cult of personality, is reduced to “Elect me, I don’t suck as much as George Bush.”

I agree Steve, but where is he going to go? The Dem ticket has only HIS personality pushing it along (or holding it back). Outside of actually parting the waters, the only thing he can do is destroy his opponents and bring them down.

He set his own bar pretty high with his World Tour coming out party.

I have been pretty impressed with the European news coverage thus far.

Sorry Obama, I bet the most run ads in the next few weeks feature you, Hillary, Bill, and Biden all saying you are not ready or qualified for the job.

You can try to change the subject but the damage is rightfully done.

In other words, the Messiah felt it burdensome to keep on playing a god. He's right. Few human beings can indefinitely maintain such a level of excitement. The bloom has worn off his rose.

“disatisfaction with the Bush Administration.”

Yes.

Also, the problem is, at least 50% of the country is unhappy with the President because he has not acted CONSERVATELY enough.

Polls aside, and despite his shortcomings, I believe George Bush is still widely respected by Americans.

You know, this whole résumé contest is not what the American people are looking for,”

Debate basics 101: When you are losing on the facts, change the subject...quick.

Translation: I'm losing this argument, the pivotal point of this campaign, and I know it.

Look for: full-throated attack on McCain=Bush redux.

Losing argument though, already disproven by RNC convention...
