Chuck Canterbury, National President of the Fraternal Order of Police, today announced the organization's endorsement of Senator John S. McCain III for the office of President.
"The FOP carefully considered the records and the responses of both candidates and, in our evaluation, Senator McCain will provide greater leadership for our country and for our nation's law enforcement officers," Canterbury said. Their Local in St. Paul has been going after the very liberal Dem mayor Chris Coleman very hard of late too. (I do have to give credit to Coleman for keeping a lid on things during the RNC, though, he did a good job there.)

The International Brotherhood of Police Officers (IBPO) endorsed John Kerry on Friday. The union endorsed George Bush in 2000. But IBPO President David Holway said that "after three and a half years of disappointing leadership under George Bush, we need to change course in November and elect a President with a real record of supporting police officers and a lifetime of standing with law enforcement."

Don’t most groups usually wait until October before releasing their endorsements? The fact that these are coming now (I think there was another prominent one last week) bodes well for Mac/Palin and so NOT well for those other guys.
Well that’s a nice counterpoint to all the “Troopergate” hogwash.

They endorsed Bush vs Kerry and criticized Kerry for implying otherwise.
Interesting background - so they’re actually looking to endorse candidates that they think are good for law enforcement, and they believe McCain is the right guy.
