Conservative Cannibalism or Why Republicans Deserve to Lose in 2008

This isn’t hard to see but many here who don’t. But the reasons are right in front of our face. We have lost heart. We have become so blinded by our pet issues that many would be willing to sell us all down the river for whatever species of bug that’s up our ass. We are enraged over issues of illegal immigration, spending, abortion or free trade. These are issues that cross party lines. There are pro-life, fiscally conservative, pro-gun, secure-the-border Democrats. But they don’t share our basic values. We forget that on most issues most members of our party have the same core principles that define our politics: low taxes, fidelity to the Declaration of Independence, Constitution, and Federalist Papers as originally written, individual responsibility, strong national defense, and most of all FREEDOM. Democrats will always hate us. They are…well…Democrats! But when we eat our own, as we always do at the slightest hint of infidelity or rumor of corruption, they win. We have become very cynical of those that on most issues we would agree. If we don’t stop this practice there will be nobody left for us to vote for.

Who am I talking about? How about Newt Gingrich who remains one of the most eloquent voices of conservatism. Bob Livingston, Tom Delay, Rick Santorum are just a list of addition leaders we have thrown under the bus.

In my opinion, we have had one of the most ballsy leaders in our generation in the White House. Say what you want about Mr. Bush but he has shown more guts in the face of the most outrageous lies and hatred from the media and the opposition party that I have seen in my lifetime and that includes Nixon! Why in Gods name do we run away from a 2 time elected president who has waged a successful war against a faceless enemy that has been a threat to our very civilization. Yet that’s what we did at our convention. We have been cowed to believe that he has bungled the war in Iraq and if not for the arm twisting of our current nominee all would have been lost. But military strategies take months if not years to put into action. And the end decision was one man’s and one alone, George W. Bush. Are we that short sighted that we do not see what a wonderful accomplishment the Iraq mission is? He has passed tax policy that only Ronald Reagan could only dream about and if we don’t watch out they will disappear. He has been solidly pro-life and has been rock solid on his judges he has appointed to the bench. And one of the untold victories has been the massive humanitarian success in Africa. By his action there and in Iraq he has demonstrated for us and the world the utter fecklessness, incompetency and irrelevancy of the UN. Now that’s worth cheering!

Indulge me with a little history. Lieutenant William Bligh was a British naval officer and botanist, and a crew member of Captain James Cook’s HMS Endeavour which made exploratory voyages to Antarctica, New Zealand, Hawaii, and Australia. He had an outstanding service record according to Royal Navy Records. In 1787, commanding the HMS Bounty, he set sail for Tahiti on a mission to collect breadfruit to be brought to Jamaica. His journey to Tahiti took 10 months as he attempted to sail around Cape Horn only to turn and go the other way to the Pacific around the Cape of Good Hope. We all know the story of the mutiny largely due to his crewman losing their British morals in order to marry Tahitian women. They put Bligh and 18 crewmen to sea in a 23 foot launch. William Bligh took those crewmen and sailed over 3600 miles in 46 days in the then uncharted open Pacific with only a pocket watch, a sextant and minimal provisions to Portuguese Timor where he obtained passage back to England. He lost only 6 men along the way. The mutineers were forced to scurry off to a little known island where they died. Bligh went on to be a Vice Admiral in the Royal Navy.

Why do I tell you this? Because the name “Captain Bligh” is synonymous with a tyrant. We equate him with Captain Queeg of the Cain Mutiny. This is in my mind is one of history’s great injustices. The real man was nowhere near the man portrayed by Charles Laughton or Trevor Howard. But I fear that unless we take a stand and remind people that Bush may not be perfect but we stand with him as he stood with us. We cannot let history abuse this good man.

But he because strayed on illegal immigration, education and Medicare Reform he failed. We seen to forget that he CAMPIAGNED on his stance on these issues yet it seems that some of the folk in this forum forget that detail. Yet because of his poll numbers under the bus he goes. We say “if he won’t fight for himself why should we fight for him?” Well folks, we strayed, and look what we got. John McCain was the worst choice of candidates of the field. His second guessing and media grandstanding led the charge in throwing Bush overboard. And now he is our nominee.

No this is not a phony “Rah! Rah! McCain!” pep talk. Frankly his speech Thursday night was like watching paint dry until the end. I not sure that I was cheering for what he said in the end or that he was getting to the end! I was affronted by his assault on the private sector and on the Republican Party. We thought that Bush was bad at giving speeches? McCain is worse! Both need Dale Carnegie Training in the worst way!

During the primary we had really only one clear choice, Mitt Romney. But we can’t have one of those crazy polygamous Mormons in the White House! Under the bus! Rudy, pro-choice, under the bus! Fred Thompson threw himself under the bus without trying. Huckabee was a straw man for McCain. No other conservative dare or should I say had the guts to take charge and call out McCain.

In the end I will vote for this ticket. And I hope they win. Obama and Biden are completely unacceptable. I would prefer Jimmy Carter to Obama. At least Carter had a clue of how to be an executive. Why do you think Teddy Kennedy went after him in 1980?

To his credit McCain will finish the job in Iraq and bring our boys home in victory. We cannot let the Dems have that honor as they will claim it for their own. He will preserve Mr. Bush’s tax cuts, and will appoint conservative judges to the federal bench. This is essential as McCain will have at least 2 SCOTUS appointments and Harry Reid had been holding up many of Bush’s appointments until the new congress.

But best of all he has brought a rising star to the forefront. Sarah Palin is awesome. She we need rally around. As we saw in 1976 with Ronald Reagan she is the future of the party. She may be a tough bitch but she’s OUR tough bitch! Forget what the pundits say about her having a future regardless of the election outcome. Losers are losers there are no second chances for any part of a ticket that loses. We must stand with her as she undergoes the attempt to destroy her in any way they can. I would do the “broken glass” bit again to assure her future. Besides, if we’re lucky McCain will only serve one term and She will run for POTUS in 2012.

And there are others in the wings. Rick Santorum may not play in PA but he may on the national scene. He is articulate, plain spoken, and he is a fighter. He was a target of the Rendell/Philly machine which rules PA politics for now. We also have Governors Bobby Jindal and Tim Pawlenty. I even think that Newt could make a comeback.

And for the long term, we must also heed McCain’s better line and get involved as is my young daughter. To many of us this is an anathema as conservatives, myself included, avoid politics in order to make an honest living! And in doing so we get scarred by life, obtain regrets and skeletons in the closet. The Dems have all kinds of scoundrels in their party. Are we so pure and moral that a 20 year old DUI or juvenile drug bust disqualifies us for the people we have grown into? Am I advocating hypocrisy? No! Maturity is NOT hypocrisy! Are conservatives not human as well? We must stand up to this liberal politically correct tyranny and get involved. Screw the press!

In the end we must vote for this ticket BECAUSE we are conservative. And we need to vote Republican because the alternative is completely unacceptable. I will take a pro-choicer if he apposes global warming BS (McCain is the other way around!). But we cannot become cynical to the point where we demand absolute purity. No man has the same world view as another. We have to take the measure of a person and view his judgment. Charging RINO’s can be useful if pointed in the right direction (forgive the pun). And we have to stop feeding them to the sharks if they only rank 80 percent on the purity chart when his opponent ranks a ZERO. And most importantly we cannot allow Pelosi and Reid have veto proof majorities. If Obama gets in they will call the shots not Barry. The damage they could cause would be immense and take years if not an entire generation to correct.

If we don’t wake up and see what side of our bread is buttered, we will lose, and we deserve to.

We did this and I am sure with Bush’s blessing to WIN this election and give the MSM NO REASON to talk. It shut them up!!! It worked.....and I am sure the patriot/stateman Bush is, he understands. I think it was brilliant.

History will give Bush his glory....but now is not the time to play into the Dems hands. He fight, fight and fight....and I for one was thrilled how the convention turned out.....It felt like divince intervention. Thank God!

The Republicans are running against a candidate who favors drivers licenses for illegal aliens and not a word about this at the Republican convention.

So, let me summarize your argument: Conservatives strongly hold positions that deal with conscience, loyalty, religion, and self-worth, while liberals adopt whatever helps them win an election, including crime, bigotry, and lying. And you think we should become liberals? WTF?

Amnesty is not a “pet issue,” it is a dealbreaker. Amnesty will destroy this country with the stroke of a pen.
