Hurricane Ike Live Thread
NOAA/NHC ^ | 7 September 2008 | NOAA/NHC

Hurricane Ike is the fifth tropical cyclone of the 2008 hurricane season to threaten U.S. Gulf Coast states.

Reports from Turks & Caicos Islands describe 80 per cent of homes damaged or destroyed. On Sunday, Hurricane Ike's position just north of Hispanola was hampering relief efforts for devastation incurred by Hurricane Gustav and Tropical Storm Fay. The death toll in Haiti from Gustav reached 200 people.

Florida Governor Charlie Crist held a press conference Sunday morning shortly after a Hurricane Watch was issued for the Florida Keys.

I’ve looked at those generators over the years. I’m more worried about flooding than wind damage to a fixed generator in this location.

There’s one model back to Baffin, then 10 between Nueces and San Antonio Bays. Looks like it’s back to us.

Right now, in Centex (extreme draught-stricken) there are beautiful drops coming down. They look like liquid diamonds.

Prayers for everybody who doesn't need liquid diamonds.

Beautiful description of much needed rain.

Pebcak, your hurricane dog stories always amuse me. What a character!

I watched channels 4 and 5 weather reports at 6pm and Brian Hale(4) has Ike going into La. Tim Smith (5) has it going north of CC. I was surprised at the huge difference in their forecasts.

I saw a map on TWC just now that showed the drought areas in Texas which covered Victoria, Austin and surrounding areas. Ike going north of CC would give some drought relief to those areas. I don’t wish this storm on anyone, but that area would better handle the rain. It’s the wind that will batter them. My prayer go out to all in Ike’s path.

And prayer for those in the Florida Keys who appear to be getting some heavy bands from Ike.

There was a video of the hurricane hunters going in last year on WU. It was dark and lightening was the only light. Very awesome.

My own prognostication. For whatever reason, this has seemed to me where this is headed from the start.

I am getting married in San Antonio on Saturday. Anything to be worried about? If Ike is a CAT4 at landfall what can I expect in SA?

Ike looks furious in that shot. Wonder what his mood will be when we wake up tomorrow.
