Hurricane Ike Live Thread
NOAA/NHC ^ | 7 September 2008 | NOAA/NHC

Posted on 09/07/2008 8:37:37 AM PDT by NautiNurse

Hurricane Ike is the fifth tropical cyclone of the 2008 hurricane season to threaten U.S. Gulf Coast states.

Reports from Turks & Caicos Islands describe 80 per cent of homes damaged or destroyed. On Sunday, Hurricane Ike's position just north of Hispanola was hampering relief efforts for devastation incurred by Hurricane Gustav and Tropical Storm Fay. The death toll in Haiti from Gustav reached 200 people.

Florida Governor Charlie Crist held a press conference Sunday morning shortly after a Hurricane Watch was issued for the Florida Keys.

Yeah. This may turn out a practice for us but we have to treat it like Ike is coming right at us due to time constraints.

It’s been beautiful weather in Houston for 4 days now. How much longer can this hold up realistically. It’s been nice longer for this time of the year than I can remember forever. Really tolerable humidity and heat. I wonder if it’ll hold up that much longer. That’s the concern with these forecasts, no doubt.

Yeah the wheels are turning.

The cone is narrowing isn't it? Well break is over. I've got to decide what to take if I have to leave. I didn't think it would be this hard.

A cool front in early September, who’d thunk it? gotta love global warming. Still nice, but getting back to hot and humid. Next couple of days will be interesting, more so for some then others. lol. Still plenty of time for a few more surprises. I’d say the entire Texas coast is still very much in play.

Hey RGVTx! I was hoping you'd check in.

The hurricane dog went out and pointedly faced the gulf and sniffed, but didn't seem excited yet. But she's interested.

During Dolly when the winds were about 85 mph and it was raining buckets, she was totally elated and jumped in the pool. It was fun catching her, (not) and even more fun drying her off in the kitchen on the wet floor tripping over extension cords.

just gusting wind with a tiny bit of rain down here in Key West

there is a rumor that a Public's grocery trailer was blown over by a gust this morning up around Mile Marker 79

don't know if it's substantiated by fact

That's what I'm hoping. My daughter got hit bad by Dolly and just had all the repairs done!

I have been way down into Mexico along the east coast and beyond Matamoros it is not heavily populated. I know Mexico moved them out for Dolly.

I’m making a mid night run to Walmart tonight. I was looking thru the pantry. Most of the stuff from Dolly is still there. We need lot’s of choc though. That went fast.

Been tied up a bit, trying to arrange equipment to go to one of the windfarms on Thursday. Idiots.

My half grown cat has been acting weird. She’s weird any way but has been over the top the last few days. Just has spells where she paces and crys and wants to be rocked. There are two of them that got left by their momma before they hardly had their eyes open. I don’t think they know they are cats.

Seriously? They aren’t going to put them up yet are they? Ike goes thru there and it will tear them up, won’t it?
