WASHINGTON Senator McCain's running mate in the US presidential election, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, met with the board of directors of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee on Wednesday and expressed her admiration for Israel. The meeting took place inside Palin's hotel, sources said.
A campaign official would not say who asked for the meeting, but said it was geared towards putting the American Jewish community at ease over her understanding of US-Middle East relations.
"That's obviously going to be an issue," the aide said. "It's not like being the senator from New York, obviously. But these aren't issues that are off her radar."
Palin, joined by Sen. Joe Lieberman, expressed her "heartfelt support for Israel" and spoke of the threats it faces from Iran and others, the campaign official said. She also claimed to have planned a visit to the country in November of 2007, but had to cancel when she was pregnant.
AIPAC spokesman Josh Block was pleased with the meeting. "We had a good productive discussion on the importance of the U.S.-Israel relationship, we were pleased that Gov. Palin expressed her deep, personal, and lifelong commitment to the safety and well-being of Israel," he said.
"Like Sen. McCain, the vice presidential nominee understands and believes in the special friendship between the two democracies and would work to expand and deepen the strategic partnership in a McCain/Palin Administration."
Palin has previously met with Israeli Foreign Ministry official David Akov, who served as Israel's Consul General for the Pacific Northwest Region. During the meeting the two discussed cooperation between Israel and Alaska on various issues, such as counter-terrorism efforts.
Akov invited Palin to visit Israel and the governor expressed her desire to do so. She also reportedly told Akov that Alaska's residents love Israel.
This is news to me, when was the LSM going to report this meeting with the Consular-General?
Oh Noz.... she supports Israel?
Now...If we could get Israel to support her...
Why to the jewish people reject conservatives?
A curious question
A campaign official would not say who asked for the meeting, but said it was geared towards putting the American Jewish community at ease over her understanding of US-Middle East relations.
I just don’t understand. How could the Jewish community vote for a muslim that wants to eliminate Israel, AND THE Jewish PEOPLE FROM THE FACE OF THE EARTH.
First I heard of it too. Obviously not in LSM’s agenda.
Simple. I have a few Jewish aquaintances. They only read the New York Times.
It’s real simple, the enemy of my enemy is my friend. No need for an Ivy League degree in International studies to understand that concept.
There are plenty of conservatives (Likud party members) in Israel, and they're well aware that the GOP is a far greater friend than are the Donkeys. McCain/Palin have their support.
As far as American Jews are concerned, there are indications that this GOP ticket will get a higher percentage of their vote than any GOP ticket since Reagan/Bush in '80. ....as high as 40%.
Dump Israel!!!!!
Wow! That's going to piss Harry Reid off even more! Looks like Joe is finally taking his vengeance for how the Rat establishment tried to bury him last election in Connecticut.
Why are Jews Liberal, by Dennis Prager
You would be surprised how much of the financial support for McCain-Palin and the GOP in general comes from wealthy Jews.
Hopefully, this announcement will open up the floodgates.

Dump Israel!!!!!
Ain’t going to happen
William Kristol writes for the Times, but is no liberal . . at least in my eyes.
I believe that Jews will vote around 35 percent GOP this cycle . . maybe more.
I will read this at my leisure.
Prager is great and pragmatic. Is Pragmatism at the core of Jewish belief?
Rabbi Spival certainly believes in keeping the dialog open
What is is called? Kvetch? noo.. thats not it..
You know what I mean. not griping but conversing
Interesting
And Kristol has been perhaps the biggest Palin supporter among all the pundits. In fact, he predicted she would be McCain’s VP many months ago.
If McCain/Palin get more than 30% of the Jewish vote the election is in the bag. ...and could be a wipeout.
