Today, top McCain aide Rick Davis indicated the campaign isn't in any hurry to slot Palin for a Sunday show appearance -- and will do so only if he and other strategists determine it serves the ticket's purposes, not because some may view it as a required initiation for a major political player.
Appearing on MSNBC's "Morning Joe" show, Davis said, "I'd never commit to anything in the future. ... Our strategy is in our hands, not the media's. We're going to do what's in our best interests to try to win the election. If we think going on TV news shows are [sic] in our best interests, we'll do it. If we don't, we won't."

This is really hilarious. Palin is now the most popular and respected politician in the country, and she is too busy doing important things to go on the talking head shows. They must be feeling a little irrelevant at the moment.

Yes, but there's more. In addition to all that's been pointed out so far in this thread (which makes me smile all by itself), there's something else:
Fox News beat *network* news in audience size for showing the RNC. That's *never* happened before. Cable has never beaten all of the networks.
So now the *network* talking head shows have to wonder if Sarah is going to go on a Fox show...and bump up Fox above the Networks' ratings.
Which means that they want her for more than just ideology and partisan gain now...they've got something that they value even more than Democratic Party talking points and kudos: their careers.
If Fox starts regularly beating the network news, then all of the advertising is going to go in a big Dollar way over to Fox...putting many network TV personnel out of work and irrelevant.
So the network shows are sweating. They've so over-extended themselves attacking Governor Palin that they've put their very jobs on the line...and they are only just now realizing the extent of the self-damage they've inflicted upon themselves.
"Is she going to do Fox and not us?!" they're asking each other...and they don't like what may be the answer now.
How can they take their message to the people without the media?
That is great! I am glad to hear Fox is doing so well. Fair and balanced news is refreshing. I do hope Palin goes on Fox first.

Agreed, the two biggest areas of difference between McCain and Palin are probably illigals and global warming. At least one can hope anyway!

My guess is team McCain has a bunch of Human Behavior Analyst and Military Strategists within the team and are figuratively are scrambling their oppositions brains like eggs in an omelet....

You represent most people’s thoughts on this, I am sure, and I respect that. I am thinking way outside the box. The “whatever” you are referring to is the business as usual media control of the process. The MSM has taken upon themselves to be the kingmaker in our political process. They thought they should be the vetter of Sarah Palin, correct? That is the way it has been as long as I can remember. It probably started in earnest after Watergate, but that’s another issue.
They control the agenda and message to a very large degree, particularly for people not interested in politics on a daily basis. All I’m saying is, that with the cirumstances of Sarah’s nomination (first GOP woman vp, unknown, accomplished, outsider, woman, hillary’s percieved demise at the hands of the media, the media smears of Palin’s family, etc.), the stars are aligned in such a way that if they wanted, the McCain campaign could change the rules. They could say “the media will no longer have that power. We will talk to the people directly.”
I am not saying this would be a safe move. It would not. Lots of people would say she was hiding or running scared, or whatever. But, at that point, the MSM would only be able to cover her speeches and interviews as an observer. They wouldn’t be part of the story themselves. The move would reset journalism to what it used to be...reporting the news, not controlling it w/ their agenda driven questions, commentary and smears. With Sarah’s reservoir of good will in the voters’ minds, there would be a chance she could weather that storm. She would identify with the populist notion that the media is out of control and needs to be corrected like the real estate market is. Sarah’s authenticity is powerful and I could envision this working. It would be a bold move, but I see this election as more than a GOP thing. I see it as a cultural battle as to what direction the country will go after the election...more entitlements and government intervention or an invigorated “can do” spirit that motivates people to become all they can become, w/out being taxed to death.
Of course this won’t happen. But drastic changes in any system require bold action by people with backbone. It would fit the “maverick, agent of change” profile to a T.
A bunch of old, white liberals, both white and black, trying to nail her for their left-wing masters.
I hope Sarah adds a line like this to her stump speeches: “I think I’ll do fine dealing with Washington insiders, including the media. After all, I have plenty of experience changing diapers.”
Yeah. I don’t really see any advantage for Governor Palin to go on the Sunday morning fiascos. No one really watches them anymore anyway. The old white guys use them to see who can come up with the most sound bites to be used as fillers for the various nightly news shows for the rest of the week. I’ll bet they are all sitting around right now taking bets on who will be the first to come with a “gotcha moment” with Governor Palin. The sad thing is, they are all scared to death to do the same thing with Obama because they are afraid that they might be viewed as being “racist” if they pull a “gotcha” on Obama.

According to posts so far, Palin is absolutely flawless and the likely second coming of Reagan. The first isn’t true and the second is a VERY long way from being determined.

Dude, you might be clueless. McCain doesn’t have a big ego - or he wouldn’t have chosen her in the first place. There’s lots of scuk-ups in the world - and McCain could have had his pick. Sarah’s not one. She’s her own woman and McCain knew it when he picked her.
Sarah Palin has done stuff in government that actually has some worth. Even if she turned out to be a closet lib or has some nasty skeletons--even skeletons so bad she would be thrown off the ticket--she can lay claim to years of experience and long lists of accomplishments that Barack Obama can't touch.
That's the truth. Saying otherwise is as untrue as saying that Reagan has been reincarnated in her body.
