Pundits Perplexed by People's Palin Passion (Good One!)
Townhall ^ | September 04, 2008 | Phil Harris

Posted on 09/06/2008 3:13:43 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

She spoke directly to the hearts and minds of everyday Americans, sick of self-perpetuating, self-aggrandizing elitists. The fly-over folk have lost patience, not only with a paralyzed and inept Congress, but also those who cannot see beyond the margins of conventional wisdom.

Pundits on the left and right are having a conniption-fit. This severe cranial cramping is the result of over-thinking, over-analyzing, and trying to cram the Palin phenomenon into the square holes of inside-the-beltway thinking.

I have news for former speech writers, congressional insiders, lawyers-turned-journalists, and think-tankers who find themselves adrift in a new alien landscape. Excitement for the McCain-Palin ticket is a weather-rounded peg that cannot fit into the old square holes. The peg has been weathered and worn, because folks have been subjected to a derelict government for years; term after term, election after election, no matter which Party holds or gains control.

Permanent fixtures in the House and Senate have adopted a two-task job description. Run for re-election, and hold meaningless, never-ending hearings designed primarily for political payback. It is quite nauseating, and unfortunately, old-guard pundits play right in and simply become enablers.

John McCain got under my skin on some issues over the years, but I believe he did so in a well-intentioned effort to jam a wrench into the status quo. He came across as too eager to bend over on some issues. On reflection, I can see his motivation and empathize with his desire to kick through some carcasses on the road in the hope of moving forward.

Sarah Palin brings back to John McCain a sense of conservative boundaries that I believe he will respect and use. As President, there will be no need to bend over as far as seemed necessary in the Senate for McCain, but we must also stop this absurd pundit notion that divided government is a good thing. Conservatives must reclaim a working majority in Congress, a task that is up to us to accomplish.

But back to these mental gymnastics the talking heads have been trying to accomplish regarding Sarah Palin. It is absurd to say that the McCain campaign cannot honestly use experience as an argument against Obama. As has been pointed out, Palin has real executive experience. Obama has none.

On Election Day one of two realities will be upon us. We will have elected a Vice President with a measurable quantity of Executive, Commander-in-Chief Experience or we will have elected a President who has absolutely none.

John McCain is unlikely to pass on to his rewards the day after taking the oath of office, but if he happened to do so, we will be in a far better position with Sarah Palin after the fact, than with Obama on day one.

She’s saying what most white males won’t say.

She’s getting away with it because of her..."

On the battlefield, there are times when you have to use the enemies' own weapons or tactics to defeat them. Perhaps this is one of those instances.

I have enjoyed the interviews with the friends of Sarah's...people who have known her all her life...people who know her best.

Where are the interviews of life-long relationships (or short-term) with the people who know Barry and Joe.

When I look at Sarah Palin, I see leadership, strength, unwavering confidence, wisdom, intelligence, and grace. I see somebody who has accomplished more in her two years as Governor than Obama has in his entire life.

See You Tube and Google and use the keywords "Bill Ayers", "Tony Rezko", "Michael Pfleger", "Jeremiah Wright", "Frank Marshall Davis", "Michelle Obama", "Neil Kinnock" "Ted Kennedy" and "Trinity UCC"...

Charles Krauthammer is another who is a little chilly with the Palin pick. I believe he is pro-choice.

You are right, she is not a politician, she is what they used to call a statesman.

This image isn't satire, it's reality. That's the crux of the left's issue with Palin, I think.

She ain’t getting away with NOTHING!!!

She’s had more dirt and filth and mud and ridicule and condescension thrown at her and her family in ONE WEEK than any career politicians have in their ENTIRE LIVES!!!

The problem is that when you are a public figure your role is looked at. You home life is looked at. Your political life is looked at. Remember Clinton? Inhaling? The draft? Wondering if he fathered an illegitimate child? Who Clinton’s father really was? It is unfortunate but that is howit is. They also serve as ROLE MODELS. Sarah is serving as a role model for females in particular - she’d like you to believe that you can “have it all” - “career and raise a family at the same time”. Do you want your family to be like this? Is this what you aspire to as a woman?

For starters, I ain’t a woman.

Also, read proverbs 31:10-ff and the story of Deborah in Judges chapter 4.

I’m not necessarily saying that Sarah is a Deborah, but she does seem to be the only person with enough pluck to weather the incredible storms for saying what she’s saying.

I repeat.

Neither Bill Clinton nor ANY OTHER POLITICIAN IN MY LIFETIME, was EVER bashed in their whole lives as much as Sarah has been in JUST ONE WEEK.

I agree that Sarah is being bashed more ... on the other topic, the Bible, perhaps you need to read beyond Deborah? I’ll let you discover that answer ... .

I see it this way, the GOP Is between a rock and a hard place ... if Sarah is willing to sacrafice her family so we can avoid Obama - fine. As for us, we don’t want the role of Mr. Mom for our daughter when she marries. Prior to marriage - GO FOR IT! During marriage GO FOR IT! If kids come - STOP! Make your children your priority. DO not outsource them. They are more important than money or fame. After the kids are grown - GO FOR IT!

You do as you see fit. We prefer traditional family values and roles. We will not be fooled into liberal famiy values in this home.

nmh,

We have 11 children, three sons and EIGHT daughters.

We are a Christian homeschooling family.

Trust me when I say we’ve read beyond Deborah. We’ve read Esther, too. We’ve even read all the way to Titus 2:5 (”keepers at home”) and beyond.

We are VERY conservative, in our music, our attire, and our habits. We don’t have a TV, we don’t chew gum, we don’t imbibe alcoholic spirits, we don’t intentionally inhale smoke, and we don’t watch Hollywood movies.

The computers in our home network are behind a Linux firewall with a Dansguardian internet proxy, where only urls kept in a password protected list are allowed.

Having said all that, let me reassure you that my wife and I had many, many reservations about any woman being in politics, which we consider to be the realm of men.

But, to quote Denny Kenaston, “Where are the men?”

In my lifetime I have witnessed the degradation and feminization of manhood, even as womanhood was being degraded and masculinized.

I honestly don’t know what to make of the Sarah phenomenon.

Is God raising up a woman as a slap in the face to the weak and dissipated men in this country, just as He did with Israel under Deborah?

I don’t honestly know.

But I confess that I thouroughly enjoy hearing Mrs. Palin eviscerate that stupid Donkey and its minions, as well as the enemies of our country, in strong, believable, articulate terms that I have not heard from ANY of the presidential contenders since Ronald Reagan.

I believe that God has given us our vote as one of the talent he gives us to be invested, multiplied, and returned to him.

In this election, I will try to maintain a Kingdom perspective.

I will not be voting for the lesser of two evils, neither will I be wasting my vote on some third party, rather I will be voting for the greater good.
