E. J. Dionne Jr. Straight talker's convention was full of derision

It's sort of hard to come away from that thinking "nonpartisanship."

McCain tried to get voters to remember that man in his acceptance speech Thursday night, the one who "worked with members of both parties to fix the problems that need to be fixed." But that man has disappeared.

The stage in the middle of the cavernous Xcel Energy Center was rearranged so McCain could conjure the feel of the town hall meetings he loves as he laced into "partisan rancor" and "the Washington crowd." Yet a set change could not disguise the fact that this convention -- including the big speech Wednesday by his running mate, Sarah Palin -- dripped with divisive ridicule as speaker after speaker worked to aggravate the country's cultural schisms and replay worn-out harangues against weak liberals.

The Republican crowd here gleefully played into the worst stereotypes of their party as a privileged class resistant to change.

The Democrats want bipartisanship... as long as its on THEIR terms! John may not get that but the rest of us do!

I’m surprised they let this old ne’er-do-well write a blurb on local gossip in a weekly shopper, much less a column in a national newspaper.

Their hypocrisy is stunning, breathtaking!

They are not being crybabies.

They are trying to paint the Republicans as “mean”, and that’s after all the filthy, sleazy, smears and the smug and smarmy smirks of the media elite.

They have succeeded in this tactic many times, which is why none of the candidates were willing to do it until Sarah Palin came out swinging and floored them.

I wonder if it will fly this time.

No, it wasn’t. They needed lots more derision! Where do we drill for derision?

Oh, E.J., sweetie, have you ever seen a debate carried on by a British team. Good-humored zingers are the way they win. Afterwards, everybody, except those who took it too seriously, just shake hands and congratulate each other. Bless your heart, do you think the Republicans might want to win? /sexism

It's tough trying to point out the obvious to the idiots in the media, but I applaud you for trying.

E.J. does an excellent job of playing an outraged old queen, right out of Central Casting. Must be method acting. Yeah, that’s it, method acting . . . .

Yo, E.J.!! Too much drama, guy, you gave yourself away.

I think he is the one who spits and talks with a lisp. Chris Mathews is the one who just spits.

When you’re talking straight, sometimes it just sounds like derision. You know, like when your opponent is really inept and you have to say so. Repeatedly. Cause he’s also slow.

I may be politically incorrect, but when I think about E.J. I always wonder if it is possible to lisp in text mode.

I remember the Dem convention line: “poor George, He can’t help it. He was born with a silver foot in his mouth.”

And do you remember the ad tying GW in with the dragging to death of a black man.

Get off it, Dems.

E. J. Dionne Jr. is a fraud.

Local TV anchor in Philly, Larry Kane, was supposed to moderate Bill Clinton’s appearance at his synogogue. I called Mr Kane and told him that Bill Clnton was fighting to impose new requirements on the synogogue appearance. All questions had to be submitted in writing 24 hours prior to the event and Bubba would pick what he wanted, perhaps even none.

Larryu Kane told me, if that’s the deal, I’m not hosting. And true to his word that is exactly what happened.

When Bill Clinton spoke at the Constitution Center, there was the same rules and E.J. played towel boy for Clinton. No big journalsist ethical crisis for E.J. no sirree.
