WASILLA, Alaska -- The biggest project that Sarah Palin undertook as mayor of this small town was an indoor sports complex, where locals played hockey, soccer, and basketball, especially during the long, dark Alaskan winters.
The only catch was that the city began building roads and installing utilities for the project before it had unchallenged title to the land. The misstep led to years of litigation and at least $1.3 million in extra costs for a small municipality with a small budget. What was to be Ms. Palin's legacy has turned into a financial mess that continues to plague Wasilla....

Guess it’s good to get it all out there and debunked.
Unlike the 0 who lets the media cover his ass.
The messiah could NEVER withstand this kind of scrutiny. He'd be gone in an hour.
What I’m trying to figure out is why a supposed conservative didn’t tell the hockey league to build its own arena and leave the taxpayers out of it.

WSJ isn’t conservative.
Only its op-ed page is.
I guess she didn’t have any gangster friends or terrorist buddies to help her in her real estate transactions, unlike Barry.

“At the time, with the information she had, [Ms. Palin] made the right decision,” Mr. Leonard said. “But you know what? Litigation happens.”
The sports facility is finished, set against forest and mountain ranges. Inside, locals kick soccer balls and skate laps on the rink. Last year, it hosted a statewide wrestling tournament.
“All I can say about the sports complex is that it was done on time and under budget,” said Donald Moore, a Palin ally who managed the construction. “It was done legally, and for someone else to say it could have been done differently in a better way, that’s strictly their opinion.”
yes for now
Murdoch has expressed discontent with many of the reporting staff there
The mayor af any town has no more control over the extent and timing of spending than the US president does.
Zero; zilch; none...
Anyone with an IQ over 30 knows that the final authority is the city council or... surprise!
Congress!
“What Im trying to figure out is why a supposed conservative didnt tell the hockey league to build its own arena and leave the taxpayers out of it.”
My guess is that most if not all of the voters wanted the building complex for the kids to play in during the long cold winter.
If all or most of the taxpayers wanted it and that was the best way to do it. Otherwise the taxpayers could havegone another route.
I'll trust the people of Wallisa and Alaska who voted for her before I'll trust the pathetic grasping of some hacks who are trying to tear her down.
Big deal! The other ticket has a plagiarizer and a community organizer with unrepentant terrorists as his close pals. No Brainer!!!
And remember the litigation involves “Nature Conservancy” a radical enviro organization. The person flapping gums is most likely an Obama supporter if not Nader...

Hilariousrunning scared like a bunch of jackrabbits.
It’s called the job of the attorneys.
Actually, it’s fairly good reporting. He told the story, gave some quotes from both sides and (most importantly) kept his opinions to himself.
At least this is legitimate background information. Unlike her pregnant daughter, newborn son, etc.
Although, it certainly looks like timelines are being fudged in the article.
Conservatism doesn’t always mean government doesn’t act. Reagan promoted the New Federalism, in which the FEDERAL government would have a reduced or non-existent role in telling states and local government (states/municipalities/counties, etc.) entities how to do their jobs.
If the city wants to build a park or a rink or something to benefit their people, that would fit right in with the actions of the founding fathers.
