The liberals in the media (but I repeat myself) are going nuts.....they can’t attack Palin’s experience without opening themselves up to questions about Obama’s.

This selection is just brilliant.

“McCain had called Palin “a remarkable woman” and said that he planned to consult her as he reexamined his position on oil exploration in Alaska’s Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. Palin is for drilling; McCain—for now—is against it. “

Yes! Hopefully she can get him to change his position a support drilling in ANWAR!

Regarding Lieberman as a pick:

"One adviser, tasked with taking the temperature of the conservative base, had strongly made the case to McCain that it would be a disaster for the party and that the base would revolt,"

Give that adviser a raise. Smart.

I do not care how she was picked or why she was picked - it was the correct choice.

LOL the night before she was announced, myself and several others saw the post from another FReeper that had mysterious air flights between Alaska, Arizona, and Ohio... It was fun to watch... Sort of like being in on a very cool secret... The overnight talk shows like Kevin James were still talking about Romney and Pawlenty... Even when Bill Bennett came on at 3:00 AM Ca time, nothing was certain to them, but during his show, and Laura Ingraham that followed, it began to build. By the end of her show, Laura was nearly jumping out of her chair she was so excited...

It looks like a lot of top Republicans are out of touch, if they thought McCain would not have had much trouble picking Lieberman. It would have divided the party, driven away a lot of people who were only going to vote for McCain without enthusiasm, and left the party with no clear frontrunner for 2012 or 2016, the way that GWB’s choice of Cheney did. Whatever his good qualities, Lieberman is not a Republican.

Thank you for the post. I was wondering how it went down and how they kept a lid on the secret.

Palin/McCain 2008!

According to that, we dodged a bullet.

It could have been Lieberman, and McCain would definitely have lost in November.

I LOVE this...discipline!!! ~snip~ "Many political observers are astonished the secret held. The McCain campaign is not. "The key to keeping secrets is not telling people," says Matt McDonald, a McCain adviser, who was one of only a handful to learn about the pick Thursday night." ~snip~

Perfect! She IS the real deal:
In a telephone interview on August 22, one week before she was announced as McCain's running mate, I asked her about reports that she had "embraced" the Obama energy plan. She laughed and said:
I'm not embracing his plan. I said a couple of good things about it. But you know I find myself getting crucified once in a while for having dared say anything positive about a plan, or an aspect of a plan that comes from a Democrat. When you consider the gravity of the problems that we're dealing with right now--and that is dependence on foreign sources of energy to such a great extent that when someone sees the light, in this case Obama seeing the light, doing a little flip-flop there on offshore drilling, I'm going to say: "Yeah!" I'm going to say: "Good job, I'm glad you did that." So yeah I come out and I say something quasi-positive about it and yeah, you get in trouble for it.
The MSM will misconstrue everything she says but she's obviously able to explain herself and do it well. The Sunday morning talk shows should be happy she's giving them time to settle down and get their act together. They'll need to!

I think back to the night of nobama’s acceptance speech and coronation. Sen McCain appeared and graciously praised him for a nice speech and gracious acceptance. Then he gave his chipmonk grin and said “Tomorrow’s another day”. And it was!
