House Democrats to yield on offshore drilling By Jared Allen Posted: 09/06/08 11:18 AM [ET]

House Democrats are ready to propose an expansion of offshore drilling as part of a broader energy bill they plan to introduce this month, according to a top Democrat.

Democratic Caucus Vice Chairman John Larson (Conn.) said the majority is prepared to back “responsible” offshore drilling through a bill that could be brought to the floor as early as next week.

But the Democratic energy bill will also include past provisions pushed by the party – but that failed to pass the House with the two-thirds majority required under the procedural rules that Democrats chose to use – including the “use it or lose it” provision and a release of oil from the strategic reserve.

The Republicans do not have to compromise on this because the Dems want this issue to go away. This is one of those rare instances when the Republicans can actually dig their heels in with very little public retribution.

Wow, the Dems are really back on their heels right now. [giggle] Their freshmen in marginal districts must be sweating bullets.

Remember, folks. This election isn't anti-GOP. It's anti-incumbent.

Support conservative candidates trying to defend or take back House/Senate seats.

If its a ‘rat bill it will create more problems than it is purported to solve.

Another drilling bill that outlaws drilling. If you believe the exact same people who got us into this crisis, you may want to buy some bridge stock. Up or down or nothing.

as part of a broader energy bill

Stop right there! That's the gang of 10 / 16 carp, is it not? The one that keeps ANWR off limits? Don't be fooled, people. If a RAT proposes it, you know it's window dressing.

GOP needs to play this right. The gang of 10 BS needs to go away. Drill everywhere with no lawsuits allowed to stop starting.

I call BS. This is a feint that will result in a bill so full of restrictions that it will effectively ban off-shore drilling, and it will add more taxes for oil companies to pass on to consumers who buy fuel. That would be everybody.

Say no to this plan.

You had better read the fine print. The Republicans need to stick to their guns and demand a straight up-down vote on offshore drilling. Letting the Dems add in a bunch of crap that they can use as an excuse for flip-flopping on this issue is a LOSER. Don't do it Pubbies.

I'm betting they just let the existing Law expire and take it up AFTER the election.

Reminder...Pelosi said the Repubs will have to use their imagination if they ever want something passed.

McCain has a great imagination..

Every Freeper should check this site out!

1. Ever heard of the Bakken Formation? GOOGLE it. It will blow your mind. The U.S. Geological Service issued a report in April (’08) that only scientists and oilmen/women knew was coming, but man was it big.. It was a revised report (hadn’t been updated since ‘95) on how much oil was in this area of the western 2/3 of North Dakota; western South Dakota; and extreme eastern Montana .... check THIS out:

The GOP should block the rat bill and just let the moratorium on off-shore drilling lapse on Oct 1st. That way the rats lose, and we win.

Democratic politics 101

All these a$$hats want to put forth is a bill that calls for expanded offshore in way too limited a way with all kinds of other strings they know that the republicans will never vote for so when it’s shot down they can go back to the media who’ll scream on every outlet that it was the dems who offered legislation for more drilling and the republicans denied it never giving the whole reason why it got shot down, just to make republicans look bad.

This 'rat monstrosity will be filled with poison pills and when the GOP rightfully refuses to go along, the 'rats will blame them for not wanting to drill for oil after all. You can see the BS coming a mile away.

I hope the repubs saw this coming and have a plan to deal with this monstrous lie the dems are hoping to hang around their neck.

But past history has not given me alot of hope on this.

Somebody stuff a sock in Lindsey Graham's mouth so that he cannot entirely undermine the Republican position.

We should resist releasing oil from the strategic reserve because it is employed by the Democrats to mislead the American people by temporarily dropping the price of oil between now and the election. With the kind of bogus legislation they envision, the price is certain to rebound thereafter. We could give in on the use it or lose it provision if the time frames are long enough so as not to discourage risk-taking. There is nothing wrong with milestone payments and that sort of thing providing they are congruent with standards in the industry.

We must understand that we have the momentum on this issue and if we do not deliver realistic, dynamic drilling legislation we will have cheated the American people in the run-up to the election. Like the people's insistence on shutting down illegal immigration by controlling the borders, the will of the people on this issue is clear and our duty to the people is clear. This is a happy political coincidence in which good government and good politics overlap.

I hope John McCain's reflex to reach out to the Democrats and compromise according to their dictates does not cause him to throw away this issue and sell the people out with sham legislation. This is an occasion when compromise is not in the best interests of the people.

All drilling must be rigorously segregated from bogus Democrat subsidies of solar and wind. These things are still just running rabbits. The Republicans should demand two different bills.

Better no legislation than bad legislation. Take the issue to the people in the election if necessary-there is nothing wrong with submitting the issue to the people where it is, in effect, a referendum. That is how democracy works.
