Gadafy gets his reward with historic Rice visit

Condoleezza Rice last night became the most senior US official to visit Libya in more than half a century when she arrived for a meeting with its leader, Muammar Gadafy.

The visit, which Rice described as historic, was a reward for Gadafy's strategic decision over the past seven years to distance himself from extremism and give up weapons of mass destruction, providing a positive example to Iran.

Muammar must be thrilled to death that he now believes he can sleep in the same bed, two nights in a row.

Did he propose to her?

He might have. From Gadafy:

"I support my darling black African woman," Gadafy told al-Jazeera television last year. "I admire and am very proud of the way she leans back and gives orders to the Arab leaders ... Leezza, Leezza, Leezza ... I love her very much. I admire her and I'm proud of her because she's a black woman of African origin."

It is amazing what an unarmed bomb through your living room window will do to your attitude. Maybe we ought to do the same with Putin, Chavez, and Ahmadinajad.

I understand - this is certainly not about justice.

But this is not about Khadafi. This is about the next president-for-life thug that it might otherwise cost many American lives to deal with. We are demonstrating that the straighten-up and deal-straight-with-us option is actually on the table when we say it is, no matter how unlikely that might look. That might be very valuable sometime.

" It’s disgraceful that we are meeting with this piece of crap. "

Yes, your right, but, I don't think it has any thing to do with any pleasantries between both the US and Kaddfy.... It might have to do more with future action against Iran soon.... perhaps the USA and Israel are getting it's ducks in order just before attacking Iran.

Didn’t he have a crush on Madeline Albright too? Maybe the lunatic Khadaffy offered Condi a job in his female bodyguard contingent after she leaves her Sec. of State post.

Actually, it’s about time. Gaddafi may be a joker, and may have been a terrorist sponsor in the past, but when Bush faced him down he gave up his nuclear ambitions, turned his back on the Arab Muslims, and has pretty much been harmless.

I think it is in our interests to reward him for his change of course and cooperation. It certainly makes a lot more sense than the way we dealt with a scum like Yassir Arafat, who was killing Israelis and stirring up the Intifada even as we paid him off, gave him prizes, and worshipped him in the State Department.

Bush us smart to do this....its about getting the price of oil down long enough for the US to develop more domestic sources. I think the jig is up now as the US will be leaving Iraq and the OPEC folk have made a bundle in the meantime.

Keep your friends close, but keep your enemies closer.

I think W has learned now just how economically important cheap energy is to the US. BTW, the closing/closed ethanol plants will be converted to produce fuel using tailor made algae soon as Detroit retools for flex-fuel / bio-diesel vehicles. Corn is needed in the process for the algae bio fuel products food I think.

Hopefully in 2 years the second pipeline from Alaska will be complete and shale oil production coupled with US refinery expansions to handle heavy sour crude (i.e. shale oil) will be coming on line. After that, hopefully we'll see at least 20 new nuke plants on line by 2020.

He also despises Bin Laden and had extensive information on OBL’s network that he turned over to us. It’s an “enemy of my enemy” thing.
