Were those evil Republicans attempting to carpet-bomb Andrea Mitchell with balloons at the RNC last night? Chris Matthews mused about the possibility on Hardball this afternoon. The footage of Andrea gamely batting away the balloons has received a lot of play. This morning, the Today show had fun with it. But Matthews seemed to conceive a more sinister explanation:
CHRIS MATTHEWS: If you were watching last night, here was a funny moment. I have to tell you: I love Andrea. Look at this crazy moment. For some reason: I don't know if it was foul play or what it was, a billion balloons went right into her when she was trying to do a report from the floor. She was getting absolutely buried in that post-speech balloon drop.

On a whim, I recorded the MSNBC coverage of Palin. (All the better to skip the commercials and pause in order to hurl.)
Anyway, I finally watched some of it today.
You’re right, Andrea Mitchell - NBC news, looked like her favorite pet had just died.
If you routinely watch that network, well, you’re tougher than I am. I’d put a shoe through the television screen. Those are the most arrogant, self-important dweebes imagineable.
I’d like someone to run back-to-back the MSNBC reactions to Obama’s and Palin’s speeches. It would leave NO DOUBT that they’re in the tank for the Dems...

I’ve never seen a reporter look as dour and just plain pouty this year, as she did during the republican convention. You would’ve thought she was going in for a bowel resection with the sour look on her face the whole time.
She just hates interacting with “the little people”.
Too bad it wasn’t lead balloons.

Everyone knows there is only one reason conservatives would even think about carpet bombing Andrea with harmless air filled ballons after her snarky remarks about Sarah Palin capped her lifelong pro-liberal bias.
That’s because high explosives would have injured too many innocent bystanders.
Actually, I had a good laugh at that.
First, they turned it over to her, and she didn’t seem to be aware that they were waiting for her to speak.
We saw her looking around, seemingly lost in the swirl of balloons.
They came back to her a little while later, and it looked like two other people were trying to get the balloons away from her.
The last shot (that I saw), the screen was filled with just balloons.
Reminded me of Tuttle in Brazil.
They should have dropped dog shit.

Reminiscent of that old comedy TV show, they should have dropped the customary bucket of green slime on her head.
But seriously, what I took from that moment was the crowd exacting revenge on the media person, one that represents so much of what’s wrong with journalism today, she got dumped on for it.
