Michael Reagan: Welcome Back, Dad ( Sarah Palin )
townhall.com ^ | September 04, 2008 | Michael Reagan

Posted on 09/05/2008 7:29:28 AM PDT by kellynla

I've been trying to convince my fellow conservatives that they have been wasting their time in a fruitless quest for a new Ronald Reagan to emerge and lead our party and our nation. I insisted that we'd never see his like again because he was one of a kind.

I was wrong!

Wednesday night I watched the Republican National Convention on television and there, before my very eyes, I saw my Dad reborn; only this time he's a she.

And what a she!

In one blockbuster of a speech, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin resurrected my Dad's indomitable spirit and sent it soaring above the convention center, shooting shock waves through the cynical media's assigned spaces and electrifying the huge audience with the kind of inspiring rhetoric we haven't heard since my Dad left the scene.

This was Ronald Reagan at his best -- the same Ronald Reagan who made the address known now solely as "The Speech," which during the Goldwater campaign set the tone and the agenda for the rebirth of the traditional conservative movement that later sent him to the White House for eight years and revived the moribund GOP.

“Palin is good - but she isn’t battle-tested at the National level yet. Thatcher, Reagan, everyone knew who they were, and they earned their reputation after doing battle at the national level Reagan/Thatcher had failures, and also many more successes and only when we were able to add these up, did we know they were great.”

Excuse me, but do you know what Reagan was doing when he was 44 years old...let me remind you, he was hosting The General Electric Theater and a spokesman for GE.
I am a big fan of RR, but he was hardly politically “battle-tested” at that point in his life. LOL

Sarah was great, but it was in fact McCain who reminded me of Reagan in his speech last night, especially with the crescendo finale. Wow. They may the perfect good cop, bad cop (with her turning the tables there). McCain has the experience and deserves to be President. I’m sure he’ll do a fine job grooming Sarah over his tenure.

I keep thinking how different recent history would have been if there had been a lot of Palins in the Congress, instead of the entrenched old-fogey pork-barrelling country-club career politician types who ran the GOP there. I don’t think a McCain-Palin administration is going to rubber-stamp every spending bill which comes along, or play rope-a-dope while the Left smears and trashes them. These two are fighters, not wimps.

” She has done absolutely zippo on the national stage except read a nice speech and look good doing so.”

FYI, Palin has accomplished a heck of a lot more in her 44 years than Obama...
and she has more executive experience than Obama & Biden combined.

Of course, if you'd like to post your resume’ and/or your candidate for POTUS and/or VPOTUS; we'll be glad to compare them. I won't be holding my breath. LOL

You’re playing right into the Dems hands.

IIRC, Lady Thatcher was the Minister of Education and Science (or something like that) before becoming P.M.

And it’s not like Sarah is a geek off the street. She’s the most popular governor in the nation. Moreover, she’s a natural political talent.

Think Tiger Woods at the 1997 Masters. They thought he was too young too...

Kelly, your bluff and blunder about me personally and my resume is just silly. You might scare away a teenage girl with your anonymous post on an anonymous internet forum, but not a full grown man. I'm not a candidate for VP. Sarah is. She has minimal national credentials. Your wishing differently does not make it so, and I'm not the bad guy for pointing it out.

OK, She's accomplished more than Obama - talk about damning with faint praise as HE HAS DONE NOTHING. LOL backatcha.

Yes, I’m quite sure many people made exactly that same point about Ronald “just a B-movie hollywood actor” Reagan after he made his “just one speech”...

Well, they did. I remember. You see, he was an actor. And actors, being skilled at being phonies as they are, are able to read words convincingly, even if they don't understand what they mean. Of course, Reagan, having not gone to Harvard, could not possibly have understood the words.

This does not, of course, apply to Barabara Streisand who, viewed generously, is an actress.

I am pissed and not just a little.

I wouldn't necessarily call her another Dutch Reagan just yet but I would say she is close to Lady Thatcher status.

Already, The Drudge Report is reporting that detractors like Oprah are showing their true racists colors and fanatical bias for Obama by blocking an appearance by Palin on her show.

It looks like from the MSM view that only people with white skins can be biased.

Oprah's racist actions towards Palin seems to be getting a pass by those hypocritical caring and loving left wing radical liberals with White Guilt.

Right now the polls are saying Palin is one of the most popular woman in the United States and possibly in the world and is fast approaching rock star status.

Palin gives hope to millions, my friends in South America are writing with nothing but glowing remarks for her campaign.

We as Conservatives will have to keep a strong vigilance because her detractors in the MSM and Democrat party will try to destroy her with false rumors, innuendo and vicious acts, shes a woman and oh yes did you know, she's Caucasian.

I like what I have seen relative to Sarah Palin...

...But this endorsement is meaningless and makes me wonder. Jr. has been a liberal media darling doofus for too long.

Sarah Palin is a phenomenon. Optometrists are being beseiged by women wanting glasses just like Sarah's.

Yes. But both she and Obama are part real and part pop phenomena at this moment. She has a lot more substance. But we haven't seen a press conference where the reporters are screaming questions at her.

I've seen one presser on troopergate from Alaska and she didn't do so good.

I agree.

Thank You, Father for bringing Sarah Palin forth ...
please protect and shield her from the wiles and fiery darts of satan and his minions. In Jesus name I pray. Honor, praise and glory to You always. Amen.

I take that as a “No, I’m not gonna post my resume’ and or anyone else’s to compare and contrast with Sarah Palin’s”

We haven’t seen this with Osamba either - not likely to happen with him.

Lousy comparison.

It's like comparing a Tire and an Orange.

Another bad comparison.

How about we compare when they actually stepped out on the National Stage.

I believe at that time, Reagan had two terms as Governor of the most populous state in the Union under his belt and had left his state with a humongous surplous without the help of Oil Revenues.

He also had extensive writings about policiy positions as well.

Now, that having been said, I like Sarah Palin alot, and if it turns out her views on Illegal Immigration are solid, I am all in with respect to support for Palin/McCain, in that order.

I think you have the Reagan siblings mixed up.

This article is by Michael Reagan who has always been a true-blue conservative.

You are thinking of Ron Jr. who is and has been a liberal little turd.

Little early to be hittin' the hooch out there in lalaland, doncha think, Kelly?

Wrap your haze around this, I'm not the issue. I'm not the vp candidate. Sarah Palin (you know, the one causing your leg to tingle) is. To compare her to me is silly, because, like you, I'm just an anonymous poster on an anonymous forum.

But your style is well-documented, attack the person who disagrees with you (on completely meaningless grounds, e.g., my resume), and that's fine. Funny, too. You are quite often good for a chuckle when you get your dander up.
