Michael Reagan: Welcome Back, Dad ( Sarah Palin )
townhall.com ^ | September 04, 2008 | Michael Reagan

Posted on 09/05/2008 7:29:28 AM PDT by kellynla

I've been trying to convince my fellow conservatives that they have been wasting their time in a fruitless quest for a new Ronald Reagan to emerge and lead our party and our nation. I insisted that we'd never see his like again because he was one of a kind.

I was wrong!

Wednesday night I watched the Republican National Convention on television and there, before my very eyes, I saw my Dad reborn; only this time he's a she.

And what a she!

In one blockbuster of a speech, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin resurrected my Dad's indomitable spirit and sent it soaring above the convention center, shooting shock waves through the cynical media's assigned spaces and electrifying the huge audience with the kind of inspiring rhetoric we haven't heard since my Dad left the scene.

This was Ronald Reagan at his best -- the same Ronald Reagan who made the address known now solely as "The Speech," which during the Goldwater campaign set the tone and the agenda for the rebirth of the traditional conservative movement that later sent him to the White House for eight years and revived the moribund GOP.

It is nice to see Micheal say this. I wouldn’t be calling Sarah the next coming of Ronald Reagan yet, but she has made a tremendous first impression. In one swoop, the conservative Reagan movement went from being dead by all media accounts, to very much alive.

Please, stop the fetishing... she made one good speech.

So she has equaled Obama's accomplishments in one day.

Yes, I’m quite sure many people made exactly that same point about Ronald “just a B-movie hollywood actor” Reagan after he made his “just one speech”...

So you don’t thing the son of Ronald Reagan wouldn’t recognize the same traits in someone else?

I don’t see it as a ‘fetish’ coming from Ronnies own son.

Sorry, But I’m going to give Michael Reagan a pass on this one.

I have to constantly remind myself that the more you want something the easier it is to convince yourself you've found it! We want another RR so badly that I fear we are in danger of buying into someone too easily. I am VERY impressed with Sarah Palin, the to the point I am pretty sure she is “The Real McCoy”, but I would hasten to urge patience. As desperately as we seek a new RR it would be very bad for us to buy into someone prematurely.

I find Michael Reagan's views on Sarah to be quite encouraging and will certainly give it credence in my search for the new RR. But even close relatives can be too quick to jump on the bandwagon.

I pray, literally, that she is everything she seems to be at this stage of the game!

From what I've seen so far, even if Sarah isn't the new RR, she will certainly do the job until the real one comes along!

” Please, stop the fetishing... she made one good speech.”

Palin has done a heck of a lot more than make “one good speech!”

And she has accomplished a heck of a lot more in her lifetime than Obama FOR SURE!

I suggest you do your homework before you reveal any more of your ignorance of what this lady has accomplished so far in her 44 years on this earth...

Mr. Newt pointed out last night that Sarah has accomplished in 6 days, what’s taken Obama 19 months.

It’s amazing. This race isn’t McCain vs. Obama. It’s Sarah vs. Obama, and McCain has become but a “Sarah Delivery System.”

Sarah probably needs a day or two off just to catch her breath, but after that, she needs to be on the air everywhere.

Start with the Rushes and the Hannity’s and work your way up to “Meet the Press” and “This Week.”

Palin is good - but she isn’t battle-tested at the National level yet. Thatcher, Reagan, everyone knew who they were, and they earned their reputation after doing battle at the national level Reagan/Thatcher had failures, and also many more successes and only when we were able to add these up, did we know they were great.

Palin is a fresh-face, and we are investing her with a lot of our hopes. Her challenge now is not to let the campaign to smear her take hold. So far, she has beaten it back.

kellynla THANK YOU!

All most conservitive Americans want is a politician to STAND UP and DO SOMETHING. Saerah has a track record, how ever short, of doing that. That is why she stands tall above the mud of politics. She is fresh untainted by Washington Politics, and a small town girl making good.
That is all we ask as conservitives and she had already done that. It is called a RESUME.

Reagon had it and continued on his mission. Lets hope that our HOPE is not betrayed here.

Oh, but what a speech it was! Great speeches have changed the landscape of American politics. This may have been one.

You know it when you see it. Whatever it is is, She has “IT”.

Her speech had me in tears the other night. It was like a JFK speech or a Reagan speech. So real. so genuine. so special. so.. amazing.

To see this beautiful 44 year old woman. Someone from my mothers generation. To see her stand up and give such a powerful speech to America. If you look in her eyes you see a leader that was born for this. John McCain is our candidate and he is great. But the Republican party now belongs to Sarah.

Thank you for saying so. It is totally out of control. She has done absolutely zippo on the national stage except read a nice speech and look good doing so.

Do we not remember how many of us thought not so many months ago that Fred Thompson was the 2nd coming of Ronald Reagan? How'd that turn out?

Please, stop the fetishing... she made one good speech.

You cannot minimize this woman. It is not about a single speech. This woman has a popularity rating of more than 80% after serving as Alaska governor for two years.

Sarah Palin is a phenomenon.

Optometrists are being beseiged by women wanting glasses just like Sarah's.

Today marks just one week since most of us began to learn anything about her and she is has already taken America by storm.

Sarah Palin has, in one week, drawn Obama and the Democrats completely off message.

It's all about Sarah, now.
