My name i'ld like to keep anynomous. I'm 19. I'm an independent, once undecided, moderate. I live in a liberal Maryland, one of my role model's is Martin King Jr., and though I used to be excited about Obama, I just can't think of ever putting him into a mayor office anymore. This may sound like a wierd oxymoron to some, but it's true. I wanted someone to hear my message. Everyone wants to know what the undecided voters wanted, and what effected their choices, well here's my story.
My great grandparents came to this country in poverty, due to six being farmers from either Norway, Holland, or the mainland of Italy, one being a miller from Sicily, and the other being kicked out of her aristrocrat family after marrying a miller. They were one of the lowest of the lower class when they came to this country. When my grandparents were born, they were born in better stature since their parents were working hard and saving money to support the family. Still though my grandfather had to drop out before high school just to do numerous jobs from that point on, including newspaper editer, paper boy (who sold "WAR BREAKS OUT IN EUROPE" papers), ticket seller at belmont stakes, and others. He was finally able to end his long job jumping at limo driving. At this point the market at crashed, and since his family was too poor to risk investing, they lost nothing. My grandparents then decided to learn about stock and invested once signs of a rebound came. My parents were born almost lower middle class. They are registered democrats, though you wouldn't know it. They were in support of the civil rights. Later on I was born.
I was a big fan of the King. I've listened to the full 17mins of his "dream" speach. You can imagine how about a year ago when I heard about an african-american running for president, I was excited. I felt like that's what we needed, and was in support for it. Over time though, I learned more about him. Seeing videos of him saying he can't disown his pastor as much as he can't disown his racist grandmother made me feel uneasy since he throwed in the racist part. Then when his pastor said "US of KKK" and "*** D*** America", Obama disowned him immediatly. If the pastor said this stuff after Obama's first part, I might understand, but one of them looked like an old tape. There was also the "clinging to religion and guns out of bitterness" that is an insult to anyone who isn't an athiest who's against guns. I don't own a gun, but I'm not against the second amandment, and I happen to be catholic.
Then there's the fact that, as we all might have heard, that people are being called racist if they vote for McCain. Now Martin King Jr. specificly said "...I have a dream that my daughters will not be judged on their skin, but on their charicters and values." Yet here we are, one person's black, the other person's white, and if you don't vote for the black one you're automaticly racist or have no self pride. This talk as gone on for so long now. If Obama had just said that such talk was wrong, then I'ld have no problem. Where is he saying such things? He's too busy talking about representing the King's dream, only without saying about the part of judging on charicter and values alone.
I'm barely holding on at this point. Next punch in the stomach, when asked about abortion "Whether it's a moral or philosophocal subject... it's above my pay rate." WHAT? ABOVE my PAY RATE? Your a senator in DC for the past four years, and then one in Illinois before then. It's your job rather win or loose to make decisions like that, so how can doing your job be "above my pay rate"? If you had said pro choice I'ld still feel better because you were forth right about whatever view you had. Just lost some points in that one.
Two more I promise. When Sarah was nominated about a week ago, I decided not to jump to conclusions as I did with Obama at the beginning, and look into this other topic that I have support in depending on the person. I found nothing wrong with her so far. Now people are jisting on her, and saying how awful and neglectful she is, from the "feminists" and other media. What I don't get is that her husband is a fisherman, and the nearest body of water besides the ocean would be the reflecting pool at the washington monument, and I herd the fishing season there has been pretty bad latly. Why can't he take care of the children since he won't do much. That's better then what happened with me (you're gonna love the next paragraph). Their even using their 17 year old daughter's pregnancy against her. That's funny cause Everyone that was my age from 13 till even now did stuff behind their parents back that would get them into a whole lot of trouble. Some of my friends take money from their parents purses and wallets, give it to some poor person, and say that they can keep it if they went to a liqure store nearby and got some vodka. Some even went as far as to empty a water bottle, replacing it with the vodka, and bring it into school for... well... enough said. I do admit Obama did say we shouldn't be doing this to the poor girl, he said it by saying "we should leave family out of this". Yeah, nice way to sneak Michelle out of the back porch. You know you can't choose what you're children do, but you can choose the people you get married to, and I don't know why someone would mary someone they didn't have some agreement in views on, unless it's to look good.
Now this is my biggest concern. My family might benifet greatly from this, just can't say that for sure, and deffinatly not the same for most americans. About 20 years ago, my mother was giving a vacine for my eldest sister. The vacine was a oral polio vacine. The oral polio vacine is different then the syringe, because the one in the syringe has dead polio cells that makes the body produce antibodies thinking it's still alive, and the oral is just dormant. Some of it got into my mother, and since it was just dormant, there's a risk of it activating again. Guess what happened? Needless to say, she was diagnosed with Polio, despite having had vacines for a different strand in the past, and needed to get rid of it. I don't remember the process that went through, but in the end she got what is known as "Post Polio Syndrome" which is any loss of nerve cells due to having had polio. In a sense she's an lucky unfortunate person, cause even though she's partially parlyzed, which happens only 1% of the time, the only thing she lost was the motor skills in her left leg and gained a weakend immune system (please don't say i'm pity handling or oh poor thing. Get that enough as it is). When the family went to visit my grandmother, my sister happened to notice a bump on her skin. It looked like a bug bite. She went to a doctor up there who said it was from a spider. Six years later, she was fealing weak, drained, and unable to even lift and cary books from and to classes. She went to see a doctor. She had Lyme (not lime, Lyme) for the past six years. For people who are unfamilir with it, the only source of travel I know of is from tick bites, such as from deer ticks, such as the ones we find sometimes on our pets since there is woodland in our back yard. Pretty much she can only take six weeks of anti biotics, get declared cured, and then get ill again weeks or a month or two later. You'ld think that Obama's health care plan would sound good right now. Yeeeeaaaa-no. Basicly My sister who has the Lyme disease, also used to be married to a man from Norway. Not gonna say his name since they did divorce and it would be rude for me to say it. Pretty much I've talked to him and his family about it. They all agreed, that National health care... is TERRIBLE. At least the one that's in Norway. I went to Norway before they got divorced, and it was sooo awful to your wallet. The must beautiful scenery I've ever seen I can't deny that, but everything is taxed by at least 25%, or more depending on what it is. And there are taxes they have that we don't even have. Appearently, if you are a manager or own a buisness or any kind of profit facility, you get taxed for every person that you hire for every time pay day rolls around. Since you have less to give to support your family, you give less to the employee. The employee then gets taxed from that pay check. What I did notice was that it was at around 100USD to eat at a resturant, so People usually either eat fast food, or something at home. I asked them about why everything is taxed so much, and pretty much the reason is if you don't pay for vacines or check ups, you'll be more inclined to go in, even if you just have a pain in you're neck. People go in and take up the doctors time and the hospital's medicine, so who pays for that? The government comes in and does it. Wait, there's so many people coming in for checkups and vaccines that they already took a week ago, how are you going to pay for it. Oh that's ok. We'll just raise and add taxes, even in merchandice shops so when people visit and buy things we get more money. To be fair, they do have a special tax refund for visitors, but it's at the very crowded airport that if you went to get all the tax money back you could miss you're flight, making people come less if they can't afford it. So basicly, how does this relate to us? Well, how can you promise to cut taxes and using national healthcare with no drawbacks when it's been proven to not work in at least that country. Putting that kind of tax on the oil company as Obama has suggested, they would have to be taxed more money then their own current income. Then the Oil companies would go out of buisness, we can't fuel our cars if we havn't found a good alternative at that point, and now how are we suppose to pay for doctors and medicine?.... Someone please for the love of God tell me I made a flaw somewhere thus proving this health care good. I just can't stomach this guy. He wrecks the Kings dreams, he calls himself a uniter of both races without steping up against racist comments, I havn't even gotten to how he could dare lie about what his oppenent's vp said on the energy crises the other day (which he said was never mentioned when it was broadcast country wide, played on the radio, and open to people who weren't even republican to begin with who must have heard it then hears obama basicly but not in exact words of course saying "It's not true. It never happened." And no one, NO ONE except for the so called "Faux" was actually more accurate then the "real" media. On Fox at least I see when a republican or conservative as well as a democrat or liberal doing something dumb they get the bs card played on them. I'm going to stay independent just in hope that someday they pick someone right for nominee, but for now, Obama blew it. He blew it with an enthusiastic, young, non conservative living in Maryland that was gaga for him when they first herd of an african american running for president on the democrat side, and just couldn't stomach him 365 days later (which I know was a while ago. That's how long I've given up on him.) I'm Sorry if I sound hateful towards Obama, I just don't trust him to even lead a boy scout meeting anymore, yet alone a whole country. End of story.
One thing Governor Palin has done is she has caused Obama to show his dark side.(And I’m not being a smartass this time). I saw Obama on TV a couple times today at some press conference. He is not a happy camper right now. I think Georgie Soros might have taken him out to the wood shed and told him what might happen if he screws this up.
Thats a ton of text. :) welcome aboard.
Welcome aboard, Vafud. You’ll find this place, Free Republic, by turns enchanting, exasperating, and infurating, but I guarantee you it’ll never be boring.
[And hey! I had ancestors from Hamburg, Germany, who had to come to the U.S. because of a scandal: greatgrandpa, a respected burgomeister, married a dancer (my greatgrandma)!
And I have ancestors who were Italian Swiss and American Indian.]
Soros is smart and in for the long haul. I thought the DNC was a mad house when the Clinton's held sway.
Soros may lose the Pres. battle this time. But he will never stop.
Welcome to the good guys, but remember, brevity is the soul of wit.
Obama: Soros/Loserman!
your first post is a vanity ?
BTW, for been a big “ I Have a Dream” fan, it goes like this:
“I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.”
You are also allowed to use spell check at Free Republic.
IBTZAB !
I agree completely. Soros is going to be a thorn in the side of America until he finally croaks.
Good for you to see through the Obama empty suit. You are obviously a thinking person to watch, observe, and draw conclusions. The health care system mess you describe is not a solitary incident. That’s the way it is in EVERY country that has a national health care plan, whether it’s Cuba or Canada. Private hospitals in Canada are ILLEGAL. This is why many Canadians come to the US to get the BEST care in the world. It’s no coincidence that we have the BEST care and it’s NOT run by the government.
You are not mistaken. One need not refer to Norway to realize that national healthcare is flawed. It is simple economics, and a priori logic proves it.
If you lower the price of anything, you increase the demand for it. In this case, you would be lowering the price to zero. Taxes now will be expected to pay for more than private citizens now pay. But, as we all know, the people will not stand taxation beyond certain rates, and healthcare will have to compete with a plethora of other welfare services. And so, services will be cut.
Without charging patients for the services you provide, you would have to find some other way to ration what you can provide. As Mises demonstrated, there is no way to efficiently ration goods without prices. Government money will not be put to the best use, and some people will be granted cosmetic care while others will die on waiting lists.
Further, without making money, the healthcare industry will not be able to compete for professionals in the labor market. Nor will it be able to compete for the all-necessary capital. The metal, plastic, r&d, and engineering that now goes into building MRI’s will flow to more profitable industries. State-run hospitals will eat up what machines they have now, and will be unable to replace them.
I have been describing a “single-payer” (gotta love those euphamisms) system, of course. I figure Obama probably hasn’t come out with a true single-payer plan yet, rather advocating an ever-encroaching government-takeover. However, hear this. All that I have described applies to small steps away from the market, too. The consequences aren’t as severe, but they are theoretically the same.
And, then, the ones who pull Soros' strings will find themselves another puppet...
the infowarrior
Interesting post - welcome. But one thing I couldn’t figure out. Why the “sorry for if I sound hateful towards Obama..”?!
Regarding National Health Care and Norway’s taxes. My dad had a cousin there (both now deceased) - and his cousin was pretty wealthy by Norwegian standards. His cousin paid MORE in taxes than he earned in a year. It had something to do with property taxes as well as even taxes EACH YEAR on things that you owned (cars, boats, furnishings, etc.).
But, Like Obama says - those that can need to pay a little more so those that can’t can get a little help.
It sounds like you have a strong grasp on the issues. Your assessment of the health care situation is accurate. More eduction of Americans and personal responsibility taken by said Americans for their own health would help a great deal (but that is for another conversation).
That being said, one term of Obama will no doubt create irreparable damage to this country that won’t be undone for generations. While you do understand Obama’s “say anything” slick-selling-at-all-costs-to-win, you are missing one very important point. Congress, both the Senate and the House of Representatives, is in Democratic control, and with the White House in Democrat hands, there will be no way to stop the quick slide into Socialism/Marixm, which is the controlling wing of the Democrat party.
What you see in Norway will be worse here if that were to take place. Those Americans who can afford to leave will, and those with businesses will relocate, and the rest of us will be left behind to foot the bill.
And that is only the small domestic piece of it. I can add the three liberal Supreme Court Justices who will consolidate power at the Federal level and strip states’ rights and other issues, but I think you get it.
You sound like a thoughtful and smart person and I encourage you to participate in the election process by participating in local campaigns. I think it would be very nice to see a convention some day and hear Vanfud say “I remember when I was young and someone named Mabelkitty encouraged me to run for office!” ; )
How did you find Free Republic?
You got that right. He acts like a high schooler on the debate team. I can’t believe the Dem party allowed itself to be hijacked by small minded leftists. But what they did to Leiberman they did to Clinton and Obama is the result of the primary. McCain should be the beneficiary in the general.
I live in a liberal area myself, and that pushed me to the right as I like to be a bit contrarian. I don't like group think and encourage people to think for themselves and make our own decisions as long as others are not harmed by them.
I think conservative ideas are best, and after a bad period of not honing our intellectual base, we are starting to make a comeback there.
The books I recommend are Atlas Shrugged and the Jack Ryan series by Tom Clancy for fiction, and for non-fiction both the federalist and anti-federalist papers. After that look at what politicians do instead of what they say.
The Left uses it quite effectively through the NEA in classrooms. You equate Obama to King; this is false. You are 19, I am much older and I remember the Kings speech. Believe me, Obama is no King, he doesn't even come close!
I suggest you examine everything you were taught in exacting detail; learn logic and Psychology and read. Always examine the conflicts in everything you read when things don't make sense. Finally, never jump to conclusions and equate things or people; the devil is in the details.
Your current assessment of Obama is exactly the correct one. He and the majority of Democrats and liberals have stood Dr. King's ideals on their head.
A man's character is in some large part determined by the company he keeps. In the case of Obama, his partners in education, business, and in his faith all have extremely questionable characters. Obama’s use of race has been not just dishonest, but dangerous, considering the broader socio political ramifications of such a cynical manipulation.
Obama has been the perfect “politically correct multicultural” candidate ... educated, articulate, and black, eloquently delivering soaring verbiage on amorphous hope and change.
He is an empty vessel into which so many people have poured their hopes and dreams, and no shortage of liberals have hoped would assuage their self imposed guilt. This is why the fervent Obama supporters take such offense at criticisms of Obama. To criticize him, you are also criticizing them thru the hopes and dreams they have attached to him. This is also why so much of the media gives him a free pass on gaffs, equivocations, and obvious deciets.
When you see people excuse a politician for ‘changing positions and saying what he needs to say to get elected’, you can be sure that a rational, thoughtful, considered process is not what is taking place.
He is farther left than any candidate that has ever made it to the national level in politics. He experienced Chicago cutthroat politics and lives and breaths the ‘Rules for Radicals’ subversive manipulations. He has demagogued his way into creating the most brainwashed cult of personality ever seen in US politics.
But you woke up. For the sake of your future as a free American, you better hope alot of other people do too before November.
