Readers Dump US Magazine Over Palin
MSNBC-Scoop ^ | 09-4-08 | Courtney Hazlett

Three celebrity weeklies — OK!, People and Us Weekly — featured Sarah Palin on their cover, but one of those magazines is reportedly losing subscribers because of it.

Us Weekly, which unlike People and OK!, chose a rather caustic cover line (“Babies, Lies and Scandal”) is said to have lost thousands of subscribers in just the first 24 hours following the printing of the issue.

.... their mistake was thinking everyone who reads Us is a Democrat, when they’re not. Readers are loyal, but the base of a political party is more loyal.

Heh heh! Reminds me of when the Sierra Club picked a fight with Pope John Paul II. They won. Well, at first they did. They got some dimbulb "judge-shopped" judge to issue an injunction preventing World Youth Day '93 from being held at a state park in Colorado as had been long arranged. But then, the SC's top brass bragged about it in their next newsletter to all SC members. They assumed that most members' "spiritual lives" were like their own, which was no doubt some mixture of atheism, agnosticism, Mother Earth / Gaeia worship, New Ageism, shamanism, Zen, and what have you. So they got the shock of their lives to discover that a huge chunk of their membership was Catholic. After being inundated with angry call, letters, faxes, membership cancellations, threatened cancellations, and the like, they went to the judge again and said, "Oops! Never mind!" He pulled the injunction, World Youth Day went on as planned, and the SC pleaded with their angry Catholic members to please stay. So they won the battle but lost the war. SCORE: Pope:1, Sierra Club:0

I'm market testing you folks for my "What Will Mad Dog Sarah Palin Do Next?" ping list. Don't hesitate to tell me to bugger off.

When will it all end? Now they're canceling subscriptions because of her...

I’ve got what’s bound not to be news to you, but the hoodrats won’t have a clue who Marx is. I wouldn’t sweat it too much. You might find a few of the brighter bulbs in and around Nashville, however, who might take exception.

Don’t you hate morons who will abuse a car over a bumpersticker? I didn’t dare do anything but walk around in a McCain t-shirt in Seattle. They’re not going to approach me personally. ;)

4000 dollar repair

camera caught a blurred image.....a woman in scrubs..

our OB had never done abortions and obviously Baptist would never allow them.....St Thomas either

“(Us publisher) Jann Wenner supports Obama, Wenner media decided to follow the buzz around Palin before her speech, and now subscribers feel like a vote has been cast on their behalf,” says another magazine editor. “It’s going to be tough to bounce back from this one. Especially if the advertisers get involved. If they get nervous, that can hurt all of us.”

“I'm market testing you folks for my “What Will Mad Dog Sarah Palin Do Next?” ping list. Don't hesitate to tell me to bugger off.”

In general it's a good idea, however, here are my comments:

1. I think there is already a Palin ping list — I forgot who has it.

2. If you plan to have a list that is a “subset” such as outrageous articles about her — that could be interesting.

3. I know you have a sense of humor and that drove the name of your proposed ping list “mad dog Palin”, I think that has a bad connotation, even in gest. Recommend changing it to almost anything else.

4. Since there are a ton of articles about her and I expect this will continue, one could get inundated — if it's not a high volume ping list, you can add me.

Thanks.

Wow. That was quite the expensive bumper sticker. :( And completely disgusting that it was likely a hospital employee who pulled that nonsense.

*sigh*

It’s just the kind of immature crapola Democrats seem to pull far more frequently. No doubt they’d call it “political activism” or some other nonsense.

At the very least it was blunted a bit by the birth of a kiddo. Joy has a way of creaping in even during the worst displays of humanity...

Direct messages to the marketing managers, CEO AND CFO when possible.

Marketing and financial officers should know when budgeting for a campaign, if it makes sense to place in caustic, political publications.

They owe it to stockholders to explain such allocations of millions in ad buys on fringe, political pubs.
