Ann and Nancy Wilson are pissed at the Republican Party and have fired off a cease and desist letter to the McCain/Palin campaign.
Specifically, the Heart women are upset that the GOP has used their classic "Barracuda" as a theme song for Sarah Palin. TMZ obtained a statement from Heart's rep, who says "The Republican campaign did not ask for permission to use the song, nor would they have been granted that permission."
The statement goes on: "We have asked the Republican campaign publicly not to use our music. We hope our wishes will be honored."
We're told Ann was watching TV today and heard the song at the convention when Palin was touted.

Either the DJ has to pay themselves, or they can sometimes be covered under the license of the venue.Paying a royalty is not the same as obtaining approval to play a song.

... they have a right to control their songs. Umm, no, they sold their rights to the label. As long as the proper fee's were paid to the right organization that handles the public playing of music (like radio stations, bars et al) then tough titties.

The whining by the artist is symbolism two has been bitc--s worried about their liberal credentials with people that do not even know who they are, their permission is not required to play the music. There much better. Go away now Ann & Nancy. We have are own talent in the conservative party.

That transition from human voice to guitar in "Magic Man" is still the most awesome thing I have ever heard.

Hmmmm.... liberalism must be the cause of these formerly gorgeous singers becoming ugly hags. I weep over my once beautiful Stevie Nicks. Shes a big time liberal too. She may be a liberal, but at least she supports the troops: Stevie Nicks Gives iPods To Wounded Soldiers

Browne sued McCain for $75,000 for playing “Running on Empty” at a rally. I don’t know whether poor little Jackie got any money but he probably really needs it.

This song is one of the easiest songs to play on Guitar Hero III. All the campaign has to do if they legally want BARACUDA is drag around a Playstation III, plug in the Guitar Hero and blast it over the speakers.
No problems!

Yes he did. Great musicians are great. No matter their politics.

Why don’t they just play Ted Nugent’s “Stranglehold”.
Trust me, Ted won’t mind a bit.

I don’t know who G. Wilson is, but Ann Wilson is a very outspoken liberal. She recently recorded a bunch of protest songs aimed at Bush.
I don’t know the legalities here, but I thought it was a moronic move the moment I heard it coming out of the speakers. As much as I dislike the Wilsons’ political views, I have to ask if I would like my song played as a theme for Obama or Biden. I would not. Whether I could stop it from happening is unknown to me.
As an aside, Chrissie Hynde is an uberliberal, but she was unhappy with her clearing house when they refused to let Rush use My City Was Gone for a time. She said, “I’m a liberal but my parents are conservative and they love Rush. I don’t care if he uses it.” Now, cynically, you could say she likes the money she gets for his playing it. But, I kind of admired her for saying that.

She’s related to them in some way. I hear tell she did a great tribute to them, somewhere.
