Liberal Republicans Lose (Michelle Malkin: Death Dirge Of The RINOs Alert)

The future of conservatism is bright.

All those liberal Republicans who were arguing that the GOP needed to “rebrand” itself and move leftward are now crying in their coffee. Arlen Specter is feeling lonely.

Break out the world’s smallest violin. I’m verklempt.

Bloomberg News:

At a Tuesday reception for moderate Republicans, Pennsylvania Senator Arlen Specter hushed the cocktail chatter when he began ticking off a long list of like- minded lawmakers who no longer hold office.

“Today, we’re in a phone booth,” Specter said.

To conservatives at the Republican National Convention this week, John McCain’s choice of running mate Sarah Palin represented recognition of their clout. For remnants of the party’s once-powerful Eastern Establishment, the Minnesota meeting signified a lost opportunity to prod their party toward the political center.

McCain’s selection of the anti-abortion, socially conservative Alaska governor, after he considered naming an abortion-rights backer such as former Pennsylvania Governor Tom Ridge or independent Connecticut Senator Joe Lieberman, leaves pro-choice Republicans at odds with both the presidential ticket and the party’s platform.

“There was shock” over Palin’s selection, said Jennifer Stockman, co-chairwoman of Republican Majority for Choice. “We were looking for someone who would be transformative and take control of the party away from the social conservatives.”

You lose.

The death dirge of the RINOs and the revival of conservatism in the Republican Party!

This is some of the best news I have seen in awhile. If they want candidates that wish to murder children, they are in the wrong party.

Interesting that Michelle has written this before McCain has even given his acceptance speech or had a debate with Obama.

Gov. Palin has brought the base in. Now McCain will appeal to the center in the debates.

I think it is a little too early to be celebrating.

Did he mention Lowell Weicker? He’s the Republican that Lieberman replaced. Weicker was so liberal that Lieberman ran to the right of Weicker on almost everything they differed on. Conservatives are better off with Lieberman than with him.

If the so-called moderates don't like conservatism, they can join the other party. No one will miss 'em!

Methinks it does not take much to sweep aside all the strategists and pundits. Come now, “branding”? Since when does marketing determine a political movement? For better or worse, the life and death of political movements rests on personalities, not “brands”.

Great. We’ve gotten rid of big government RINO wing of the GOP and solidified around ...the big government evangelical wing. Whoopie.

“The death dirge of the RINOs ...”

Thats interesting, didn't the Repubs just nominate a major RINO to be the presidential candidate?

I distinctly remember some 5+ months ago that most people here were ripping McCain as a backstabbing liberal RINO ... and now he is being treated as if he walked into the bar and yelled “Drinks on me! I'm buying!”.

I think the death dirge of the RINO’s is greatly exaggerated.

I agree wholeheartedly. If the Republican party will not stand up for life, for the 2nd Amendment, and for anti-crime judges, then it should not exist.

Is your local congressmen a RINO?

Is the dem in your district going to win nomatter what you do?

How about adopting a new congressman, one that could use your help to win.

Andy Harris is a pro-life CONSERVATIVE who defeated a RINO incumbent named Wayne Gilcrest in Maryland's 1st congressional district primary. Yes, believe it or not, Maryland does have many conservatives, we even elected a Republican governor not too long ago and even had a 4/4 split in our congressional representation. Gerrymandering has reduced us to 2 congressional seats and one of them was controlled by RINO Gilcrest.

This "republican" just came out and endorsed the democrat in the general election. If you really hate RINO's, and want to help REAL CONSERVATIVES go to congress, please consider adopting Andy Harris.

Here's his Website

It would be nice to believe that, but since the GOP's presidential nominee is himself a RINO, that makes this nothing more than wishful thinking. John McCain is a conservative like Barack Obama is a Baptist.

If you are a pro-choice, anti gun, liberal RINO republican go over to the Democrat party cause this is soon going to be once again the conservative party.
