Obama: Surge Succeeded Beyond ‘Wildest Dreams’
Fox News ^ | Thursday, September 4, 2008

The troop surge in Iraq has been more successful than anyone could have imagined, Barack Obama conceded Thursday in his first-ever interview on FOX News.

As recently as July, the Democratic presidential candidate declined to rate the surge a success, but said it had helped reduce violence in the country. On Thursday, Obama acknowledged the 2007 increase in U.S. troops has benefited the Iraqi people.

“I think that the surge has succeeded in ways that nobody anticipated,” Obama said while refusing to retract his initial opposition to the surge. “I’ve already said it’s succeeded beyond our wildest dreams.”

Speaking on other national security matters, Obama said he would not take military action off the table in dealing with Iran, but diplomacy and sanctions can’t be overlooked.

Hey Barry. You're late. Congratulations on being the last person in the world to realize this.

The left is so married to the idea of defeat in Iraq that it has poisoned their souls and blinded them from seeing victory ahead.

This man will say anything to avoid saying "I was wrong".

As Mayor Gulliani advised Senator Biden last night, “You'd better get it in writing.” I'm thinking we'll be seeing a lot more of this as the Republicans continue to pressure the Democrats for a realistic assessment of the situations we face and require them to put forth strategies.

The difference between now and the old days, is more and more of us have received as much or more education than those who are seeking office. We don't have to have someone sit down and “explain” the P&L statements, or the charts and graphs. Many of us have retired from years of service to our country and to our civilian employers at the top levels. We have seen the captains of industry in action up close and personal. You can't just offer platitudes and hopes and dreams as viable approaches. Let's see the meat of the proposals, let's talk turkey. Let's “interview” these very attractive candidates like we were interviewed. Just what do you think you can bring to the table, Mr./Ms. X.

Let's make sure we hire the best applicants.

Nobody except, oh I don't know, JOHN McCAIN AND DAVID PETRAEUS.

"more successful than anyone could have imagined"

HOGWASH!!! I protest!!! Only those liberal dolts, such as himself, have no confidence in America's fighting forces against a rag-tag band of sandbagging, sapping insurgents!!!

Of course, we already know his wife has never been proud of anything regarding America in her adult life until about a year ago... He evidently is still having trouble with it!!!

Of course if he doesn't win, he'll be back to "experimenting" with blow, booze and barbitchuates as a dumbass Communutty Organgrinder!!!

Well, O’Reilly did succeed in getting Barry on the record for what will be a very effective ad this fall. By saying it succeeeded beyond ‘anyones wildest dreams’ he is playing right into McCain’s hands. McCain was ALONE in saying we needed more troops right from the start if we wanted to get control of Iraq. He knew from his EXPERIENCE in the MILITARY what was needed to succeed. He was right, Obama was wrong.

No wonder he was so pissed at his press conference after the interview. His aides must have told him he could not have phrased his answer in a worse way. He could have said the surge ‘reduced violence on the ground’ and left it at that, but as usual, Obama had to use more words than necessary. It is fatal flaw of his contemperaneous speaking style. He tries to obfuscate by saying a lot of words, but in essence saying nothing. In this case his adding it succeeeded ‘beyond anyones wildest dreams’ he opened the door wide open for his opponents. After 19 months on the trail you would think his people would have taught him to answer dangerous questions in short answers.

Oh, so Barack voted against the surge before he grudgingly complimented it and would have voted for it if he hadn’t voted against it?

Last I heard 15 of the 18 benchmarks set by Congress were met by the Iraqi government too.

I suppose I think this is very perceptive because I have been worrying about this very sceneario since about halfway thru Palin’s speech last night. Biden does have health issues. It would be easy for his Doctor to make a ‘recommendation’ blah blah blah. The media would applaud his statesmanship and BO’s wisdom for protecting our country in this manner.

I’m sure Clinton Inc. is feverishly working to release something on Little Barry. Think about it...Mrs. Clinton has quite a dilemma on her hands: Secretly support McCain and face Sarah in 2012. Get on board with Barry in order to sink Sarah now but then kiss the presidency goodbye. Try to force herself on the ticket as VP by paying off Joe. Or lastly, reveal something to cause Barry’s withdrawal and claim the top spot herself.

“I think that the surge has succeeded in ways that nobody anticipated” -Barack Obama

You have to remember that Democrats take it on faith that the only reason John McCain advocated for the surge was because bloodlust was driving him to kill. They really do believe that McCain was just out to drive up the body count, and got lucky along the way.

Boy he is an Ad a day.

If he really did say this, then McCain's got a wonderful new ad, of precisely the sort he's already shown himself willing to air.

Specifically, Obama has been very vocal about the surge; how it wouldn't work, how it wasn't working, and so on. And now this....

And in contrast, McCain was an early and vocal advocate of a surge or, at least, more troops.

I can even hear the clincher: ".... nobody anticipated it? John McCain did. Just one more example of how we can trust John McCain's judgment."

"HOGWASH!!! I protest!!! Only those liberal dolts, such as himself, have no confidence in America's fighting forces against a rag-tag band of sandbagging, sapping insurgents!!!"

Victor Davis Hanson sums up the insanity, we are seeing from the Obama team and Obama mediots:

"If the post-Speech reaction of the talking heads at CNN, PBS and MSBNC, or the op-ed ravings of Gloria Steinem, Maureen Dowd, Eleanor Clift or Sally Quinn are any indication, the Secret Service better enlist the Alaskan National Guard for help ensuring the Alaskan Governor’s safety.

"A beautiful, confident, articulate, independent, accomplished—and conservative—woman apparently has enraged Team Obama, the mainstream media, and the entire American intelligentsia, as if they were collectively hit by a cruise missile aimed from Middle America.

When Palin talks about her present life it sounds as authentic as Biden’s showy populism came off as false. Enraged feminists are apparently the gatekeepers for less well-educated American women, who are supposed to have 0-1.5 children not 5! Their husbands must be professors, lawyers, CEOs, editors—not snowmobile champions, union members, oil workers, and fishermen—or, worse, all in one! And unlike a Pelosi, Quinn, or Clinton, Palin, God forbid, did not rely on a powerful, wealthy husband or father to energize her career. Worse still, she took no women’s studies class, never attended the Ivy League, and shoots moose. The danger is not just that Sarah Palin could win McCain the election, but she could expose the entire flimsy structure of doctrinaire liberalism as the hypocrisy—and chauvinism—it has become."

Missing from this great photo: Sarah’s son, who will be on active duty soon. Three of John McCain's sons, have have carried on the family military tradition, with Doug McCain serving as a Navy pilot, now out of the Navy, Jack McCain soon to graduate from the Naval Academy, and Jimmy McCain enlisting in the Marines at the age of 17. The latter returned home safely from his seven-month tour of duty in Iraq in February 2008

If he drops Biden and tries to put Hillary on there, she’ll refuse and it would cause a blowback of epic proportions from the media, like never seen.

I agree. This is the most vital quote ever to come from Obama for McCain to use against him, because it highlights how weak Obama is on leadership and making important decisions.
