Halfway through Sarah Palin's speech tonight at the RNC, people following the speech noticed she was deviating from the prepared text.
According to sources close to the McCain campaign, the teleprompter continued scrolling during applause breaks. As a result, half way through the speech, the speech had scrolled significantly from where Governor Palin was in the speech. The malfunction also occurred during Rudy Giuliani's speech, explaining his significant deviations from his speech.
Unfazed, Governor Palin continued, from memory, to deliver her speech without the teleprompter cued to the appropriate point in her speech.
Contrast this to Barack Obama who, when last his teleprompter malfunctioned, was left stuttering before a crowd unable to advance his speech until the problem was resolved.
Sarah Palin. Winner.

She can’t do that! Says so in the living, breathing constitution, right next to the article that says one political party can veto the running mate of the opposition candidate on the grounds that said candidate didn’t vet said running mate to the satisfaction of the first party!
maybe that’s why Biden said ‘Palin delivered her speech well
Probably wasn’t expecting it with a broken teleprompter.
She didn’t need the teleprompter. She delivered an excellent speech even though the teleprompter wasn’t working. Why can’t you understand this?
Yes I do. Even the pundits said she spent the past few days getting used to the teleprompter because she never used one.
I meant to add, “other than redstate”.
I heard that Wolf Blitzers first post speech comment was that she delivered a speech someone else wrote for her. This was also a constant theme among the commentators of Fox like Kondrake- It was great delivery buuuut “someone else wrote the speech”
As if Obammbi’s speeches weren’t written by someone else
and Biden- well, lets not go there
This makes it even more laughable
I relish the thought of the VP debate
After further thought, I’m even more convinced. The guy running the teleprompter almost certainly was a union guy that the Republicans had no control over.
What the Republicans need to figure out (assuming that they figure out union guys generally don’t like them), is that they need their OWN PEOPLE to be capable of operating these machines...or not use them. A teleprompter cannot be that hard to operate, you have a dial for speed and pause button. Once a few of them are taught, you politely tell the union guy to have a seat, but not get anywhere near the machine. You pay him, and then deal with the grievance later, if at all.
Clearly, the Democrats were able to insert their own person in this key role...it is up to the Republicans to figure this out.
I don’t know. I watched her on CNN and saw the words on the teleprompter several times during the latter parts of the speech.
And DU`ers are saying she could`nt have made that speech without a teleprompter! lol
Rudy was great and Sarah was FANTASTIC!!!
“I can’t count the number of times the media has harped on “It was a prepared speech””
Isn’t it amazing that all the criticisms the media is levelling at Palin could have been made about Obama? These media folks don’t even realize what’s coming out of their mouths.
Rudy for Attorney General....OMG I never thought of that... how great would that be? There’s a storm coming dems.....reap the whirlwind.
BTW- Rudy’s speech was wonderful! he is being overshadowed by the Palin performance but Rudy gave a GREAT speech too!
“I didn’t know about this vote thing “present” when I was Mayor!”
You know, a couple of times I thought I saw her give a quizzical look at the TP. She doesn’t need it. She’s truly one of the best “From the heart” speakers in politics. Rudy, on the other hand, had good lines but his timing wasn’t quite there.
Isn’t there like two prompters? Why don’t they have two people running it. She will basically look at one and if any weird $hit happens the other guy is rolling too.
i saw the telepromter in a couple scenes, although i thought the speech was one of the best i ever heard and she delivered it flawlessly she did use the telepromter...
Frank
I heard that Obama didn’t use a teleprompter. I’m very slow to believe this, given his uhh’s and hesitations when he’s unscripted, but I heard it and wondered if it’s true.
I wondered about the teleprompter when I noticed her start futzing with queue cards.
Rudy’s best line was the one where he tells Biden that he hopes he got his VP offer in writing.
