But it was in the wrong place. The words were scrolling faster than her speech.

I agree. Given the stakes, this lack of meticulous planning for every contingency worries me. Whoever this telepromter operator is — fired. And why not have a manual backup to the automatic prompter in any case?
Anybody remember when the Clinton people sabotaged the platform fence on Bob Dole and he fell in 1996?
The McCain people had better wake up to protect themselves and Palin. Murphy’s Law.

If this is true, malfunction my a$$. I’d be investigating this. If that ninny that had to be hauled off could make it almost to the podium, who knows what else could have been going on.

You know, come to think of it, I do remember that instant when she looked down, said "OK" under her breath, and then resolved to carry on, with the crowd cheering her on.
Not too many modern politicians can do that as seamless as she did it.

All the drugs Obama abused messed up his memory big time. My ex-pothead cousin is the same way. Hasn’t smoked in years, but his memory is shot permanently.

According to sources close to the McCain campaign, the teleprompter continued scrolling during applause breaks. As a result, half way through the speech, the speech had scrolled significantly from where Governor Palin was in the speech. No one is disputing that she didn't use a teleprompter. The point is that there were glitches that she had to deal with and she did it without missing a beat. Remarkable given the circumstances, i.e., 40 million viewers and the biggest speech of her life. This really is the stuff of legends. Tough, poised, and self-confident, Sarah Palin is a force to be reckoned with.

She’s awesome, and it’s FINE to use a teleprompter. The criticism of Obama is that he cannot speak and express a clear thought WITHOUT one. Sarah Palin can obviously speak well without all the “uh uh uhs” in her sentences, even when not on a teleprompter.
To: Virginia Ridgerunner
I’d like to believe this, but can it be confirmed? Can it be true?

This says the teleprompter begin to run ahead of her about halfway through her speech.
Therefore she had to go on with her own pacing and try to remember what words she could, because the prompter had sped up ahead of her.
This does not say that throughout her speech she never used it.

Look at what happens to Obama when he gets off script — not sure if there was a teleprompter present, though the title of the clip says there was:
