an awful lot of Jews view Evangelicals with deep suspicion, their support of Israel notwithstanding. It seems counterintuitive, but I have read of it, and heard Jewish acquaintances speak of it. I’m not saying Palin is going to be an issue with them; I don’t know enough about her to know that. But Evangelical support of Israel doesn’t seem to have much impact on American Jewish perception of Evangelicals.
The Jews I know distrust Evangelicals on cultural — read liberal — issues; and an awful lot of secular Jews aren’t particularly supportive of Israel, their being Jews notwithstanding.
"You support Israel for the wrong reasons" is occasionally heard. Yeah, whatever - support is support. Both Christians and Jews need to be reminded that Christianity is a Jewish sect. We both should take the time to read When Christians Were Jews (That Is, Now) - Recovering the Lost Jewishness of Christianity with the Gospel of Mark by Wayne-Daniel Berard.
The problem Jews have with Evangelicals is what happens after the Rapture.
I was one of those Jews..until I actually started going to the Church..I try to explain to my more jaded friends what really goes on...but old notions die hard.
cogent....your concise post was better than my ramble downthread from yourn
