Hiroshima, Japan (AHN) - U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi became the most senior U.S. official on Tuesday to pay tribute to victims of the atomic bomb that hit Hiroshima during World War II.
Pelosi, in Japan for a two-day meeting of parliament speakers from Group of Eight (G8) nations, visited the Hiroshima memorial along with other delegates. She later toured a nearby museum where a survivor, former museum director Akihiro Takahash, gave a personal account of the tragedy.
Pelosi, who is second in line for the U.S. presidency, makes her visit just a month after Japan marks the 63rd anniversary of nuclear attack.
The U.S. attack on Hiroshima on Aug. 6, 1945 marked the end of WWII. It was the world's first nuclear attack; it killed at least 140,000 people and left scores injured and suffering from radiation. Another atomic bomb was dropped by the United States in Nagasaki three days after Hiroshima, causing Japan to surrender a week later.

It’s a good thing that we won World War Two, but it’s a bad thing that civilians had to die. We’re no longer at war with Japan, why not foster friendship?
Will she meet with the survivors of Japanese Torture Camps, Human experiments, Korean “Comfort Women”? What is wrong with this woman?
She can do it without visiting Hiroshima or Nagasaki.
I’m sure Pelosi will also honor the millions of victims of Japanese war crimes.
I Suppose she will be pushing a bill for reparations for the “Hiroshima Victims of US Nuclear Aggression” when congress returns...

In honoring the survivors of Hiroshima, I do hope that she points out that while dropping nuclear weapons on Japanese cities was a horrible thing:
1. They started it, we finished it
2. Dropping the bombs actually saved lives, JAPANESE LIVES. Probably 10 to 20 million Japanese civilians would have died of starvation that winter had the war dragged on.
Ms. Pelosi ought to read Richard Frank’s “Downfall.” If she can read that is.
