Excuse the vanity, but the "affair" story seems to be getting more circulation, and credence, than it deserves. Byron York at the National Review got a copy of the National Enquirer story (which is below), which indicates the source of the smear is an "enemy" of Palin.
I'd like to know the last time a publication -- even one as questionable as the Enquirer -- published a story which had "charges" by an "enemy" as its only source.
We thought US was bad.
The pertinent section is below:
Another incredible allegation emerging from the family war is that Palin, a mother of five, had an affair with a former business associate of her fisherman husband, Todd.
“Todd discovered the affair and quickly dissolved his friendship and his business associations with the guy,” charges an enemy. “Many people in Alaska are talking about the rumor and say Todd swept it under the rug.”
And that’s it, as far as the affair is concerned. In the brief cover story, the Enquirer also says this:
The ugly family feud stems from a three-year battle between the 44-year-old governor and her former brother-in-law, state trooper Mike Wooten.
“Sarah has many enemies in her hometown – but a lot of them are in her own extended family,” a source close to the Palin family told The Enquirer.
Family members loyal to Wooten are now waging a campaign to drag Palin’s reputation through the mud.
Your kidding right? No one should be that partisan.
He’s not going to get his fingerprints on this one. Do you really think he has to tell the msm to attack? They are doing this on their own; again, it’s all fawning attempts to please their god.
Yup. Not only is this sleazy journalism, it's also lazy journalism. I am right now, even as we speak, making a "charge" against Joe Biden that he once received shock treatment to cure an unnatural and potentially deadly obsession with Mrs. Howell on Gilligan's Island.
My charge isn't true, but no matter, I'll just write it as:
Incredible charges have been leveled against Democratic Vice Presidential nominee Joe Biden, claiming an attraction to a millionaire's wife once drove him to seek extreme therapy.
See how easy that is? And fun? You bet!
Actually, the National Enquirer has been warned ... The McCain Camp is fighting back.

I refuse to take the high road this election. This is an all-out political war, and the only way to combat the endless smears is to put Obama on the defensive until every last rumor about him is discredited.

Until the libel has been printed and issued, there’s nothing to sue. The Enquirer still has a chance to kill the “story.”
In 5 days, the Rabid Omaba press has destroyed this woman. Obama must be scared “poopless” of her. His hate and sleaze has reached heights never seen in politics in this country. I think that maybe selling and moving to Alaska is something I should look into. I have become tired of the lower 48. I think you missed the point of this. This “Enquirer” story is leaking into the national media. I posted this to point out the “source” is identified as an “enemy” of the Governor. Since when is an “enemy” used as the source of a story.
It is posted to combat the idiocy, and keep it from spreading.
Biden will need a shoe horn near by for his mouth during the debates.
The screeching over Palin has rendered Biden a useless tool. No magazines will be sold over “Second-Hand Joe,” and no news kills more than the worst of the scandal sheets on the Governor of Alaska.
US Mag and the rest know gold when they see it: a Palin story is money.
And the readers know the game, too. They won’t be fooled by Obama’s love for his wife anymore than for some old rumour dragged off a crab boat in AK. They’ll be waiting anxiously for the reputation rehab stories soon enough.
