Alaska's 'Frustrated' Governor Palin On Our 'Nonsensical' Energy Policy (IBD interview w Palin)
Investor's Business Daily ^ | July 11, 2008 | IBD

Gov. Sarah Palin is a rising political star in Alaska, with an 84% approval rating. A strong advocate of opening her state to more oil drilling, she recently spoke with IBD.

Palin: There are great misconceptions about the developments up here. Take ANWR. The misperception is that this is a huge swath of pristine land, full of mountains and rivers and wildlife. Those are the pictures seen on TV. But what we're talking about with ANWR is a 2,000-acre plot of land that is a smaller footprint than LAX or big airports outside Alaska.

Palin: ANWR would take five years to begin providing crude oil to our pipeline. But you have to consider that if we'd started this five years ago, then we wouldn't be in this position right now. And who knows where we're going to be in another five years.

There are even bigger sources of crude than ANWR . . . such as offshore areas like the Chukchi Sea and Beaufort Sea. Congress can help us with those areas right now, bringing even more energy than ANWR and bringing it quicker.

I hope she will persuade McCain to change his mind about drilling in ANWR.

Drill here drill now!

Take ANWR. The misperception is that this is a huge swath of pristine land,

There is no need for propaganda. ANWR is a swamp. The oil companies cannot operate during the summer only during the winter on ice.

There is an old adage, "The Driller's bit follows the path of least resistance" which applies in many ways.

The 2000 acres, wherein the Regress **specifically** allowed for exploration when ANWR was declared a 'refuge', are effectively nothing but a cold climate desert.

Mosquitos to be sure, in summer, and an occasional caribou wander through. No grazeworthy vegetation, no fresh water, no fishing streams...every animal's preferred habitat, you betcha.

The Democrat "No Domestic Energy Policy!"

All of that puts the U.S. in a position that war for oil or
complete economic collapse will be our only choices.
You can't frustrate every source of domestic energy
without consequences. Our enemies will blackmail us
to the extent that we are vulnerable to blackmail.

The Democrats are leading us into a real war for oil.
A war we won't have the energy to fight.
