Take ANWR. The misperception is that this is a huge swath of pristine land,

There is no need for propaganda. ANWR is a swamp. The oil companies cannot operate during the summer only during the winter on ice.

There is an old adage, "The Driller's bit follows the path of least resistance" which applies in many ways.

The 2000 acres, wherein the Regress **specifically** allowed for exploration when ANWR was declared a 'refuge', are effectively nothing but a cold climate desert.

Mosquitos to be sure, in summer, and an occasional caribou wander through. No grazeworthy vegetation, no fresh water, no fishing streams...every animal's preferred habitat, you betcha.
