Everyone knew it was coming but I thought they’d wait longer to do it. Presumably they decided to take advantage of the raging river of information and push it out now rather than wait until things quiet down, when the media can focus all of its attention on it. Here’s the PDF. The recitation of facts is only around 10 pages; pay special attention to the short section on the Bailey phone call, which is where she’s most likely to have problems. This is, ostensibly, a legal document written for ethics investigators, but the true aim of course is to put the public on notice about her former brother-in-law’s “eccentricities” so that if she’s found guilty of crossing an ethical line she can claim she acted the way any good daughter or sister would when family’s threatened. The defense, in other words, will be that she’s morally right even if she’s ethically wrong.
Not the actions of a woman ready to pull an Eagleton, needless to say.

Personally, I thought she showed a lot of restraint in this matter. Threaten my family in my house—your job is the least of you worries.
That nutjob trooper and former brother-in-law is lucky to be alive. If the left continues to push this as some sort of controversy they better think twice because this guy is going to make the unibomber look like a romper room teacher.
Confirmed charges....he tasered his stepson (after he begged appearently)...drove patrol car while consuming alcohol...threats against father in law...poaching (illegal tag)...

This document reveals some really good information. One thing that I hadn’t realized was that the results of the original police investigation were kept sealed so that Sarah Palin never new that Trooper Wooten had ever recieved his 10 day suspension (which was reduced to 5 days after the union intervened). Is it any wonder than that she her husband and staffers continued to mention concerns about Wooten when to all appearences nothing had ever been done about the original complaints. This document should totally put this scandal to rest.

Who says she has acted unethically? I have yet to see proof that she violated some ethical norm.
If you start reading from the beginning, you can see that the paperwork is directed at the Alaska Attorney General, seeing compliance with Alaska’s laws, therefore she is requesting it be referred to the Personnel Board and investigated by an independent counsel they are required to obtain - which by Alaskan law is the ONLY entity empowered to investigate a possible ethics violation by the Governor - NOT the state legislature which she fought against. They were planning to conduct their own investigation and release their ‘report’ on October 30th (coincidentally, I’m sure...)
It’s a great move on her part. Everyone needs to follow the same rules, not partisan witch-hunts.
I agree. Why in the world isn’t the McCain camp HITTING OBMA WITH AYERS, REZKO, SINCLAIR, HIS BIRTH CERTIFICATE FORGERY!!!!!!!!!!!! I am just furious.

TROOPERGATE IS A NON-ISSUE:
From our conversation, it was clear that the McCain campaign paid a lot of attention to the so-called “Troopergate” issue. After all, unlike the “fake baby” story that has preoccupied the press, it is a real issue involving allegations that Palin abused her power. Last night, the McCain campaign distributed a “background guidance” memo to reporters on the issue. In our conversation, the strategist recounted much of the substance of that memo.
“Of course this issue came up in the vetting, and this is what we discovered,” the source said. “The man who was fired has said on the record that he was never pressured by the governor or the governor’s husband on the issue of firing Trooper Wooten. The governor had a vision for how she wanted that department to be run. The commissioner had a different vision.”
It wren't like nobodee gonna mess aroun wid Wooten for this, he a togh hombre, jus ak dat mouty lil step kid what got zapped for opening his yapper - THIS time.
Yessir, I kin shore see why a drunkass, child abusing, in law death threatening scumbag with a badge and a gun would appreciate a swell guy like Monegan to defend his actions and give him a couple days to recover from those mean things the Governor said about him, and I bet there isn't anything a guy like Wooten wouldn't of done for him.
It's just a shame that Uh O didn't find out about Wooten before he hired Biden - just think about the possibilities having a multi tasking oriented feller like him could bring to O's upside down ticket.

The union president, Rob Cox, is a 17-year trooper veteran who worked alongside Wooten in the Valley. Cox said he never thought of him as a rogue cop.
It's significant that Wooten served for a while on the Special Emergency Reaction Team -- like a SWAT team, Cox said.

Both McCann and Palin gave troopers detailed accounts of what happened. Wooten was headed home in a rage, McCann said. She called Palin and put the phone on speaker so Palin could listen when Wooten got there and get help if things got bad. Palin had her teenage son Track listen in, too.
As McCann remembered it, Wooten said if their father got a lawyer for her "he would eat a f'ing lead bullet. I will shoot him."Palin was interviewed by troopers too.
"Mike in the conversation never did get to the bottom of what, what the foundational issue he was dealing with, he just kept screaming, "I'm gonna F'n kill your dad if he gets an attorney to help you," Palin told troopers, according to the transcript.
Track told troopers he heard the comment, too.
Palin drove over and watched through the window. She and McCann both said Wooten was all wound up. A neighbor who stood watch as well later told troopers that Wooten looked angry but that McCann wasn't cowering or anything.
Wooten told troopers he never said anything like that about his father-in-law.
The investigation concluded he did.
It wasn't a crime, because he didn't threaten Heath directly. But it did violate trooper policy, the investigation found.

Clearly it won’t cause the media to suddenly drop the story. However, it gives us and all of the Republican talking heads a concise explanation of the facts that we can use to explain what actually happened whenever the scandal comes up. After enough people learn what actually happened the democrats will realize that they aren’t helping themselves by talking about it any more.
