Rick Klein, from ABCs The Note, reports: Lets say you dont read The New York Times or The Washington Post (or The Note, for that matter). Lets say you dont follow the big political blogs and youre not obsessed with every turn of the screw of this fascinating presidential race.
Lets say, instead, like millions ofworking-class Americans, you get your news on the political race from the supermarket aisle. Lets say youre -- I dont know, a hockey mom -- and youre intrigued by this Sarah Palin person youve been hearing so much about since Friday.
So youre shopping this week -- and what do you see on the cover of US Weekly? That esteemed journalistic institution is taking it right to John McCains running mate -- with a hard-hitting piece that details the scandal involving her daughters pregnancy.
BABIES, LIES & SCANDAL, screams the headline on the cover, with a picture of a smiling Palin holding her fifth child, 4-month-old Trig.
Inside is a collection of Palin lowlights -- from her daughters now well-known pregnancy; to Internet rumors that the governor pretended to be pregnant to cover for her daughter; to troopergate; to her onetime support for the bridge to nowhere; to a radio appearance where she giggled while shock jocks called a political rival a bitch and a cancer.
-snip-
But this, to me, is the clearest evidence yet that the McCain-Palin campaign is losing the battle over Palins image. US Weekly readers are the voters her selection was designed to attract. Theres not much to like in this early take -- and not much to indicate that the next round will be much better.

If any child had Britney or Jamie Lee Spears as a role model her parents did a very poor job in raising her.
I can see the headline: "Obama's daughter punished with a baby."
Do you know something, or are you just referring to their habit of making up affairs that President Bush supposedly had?
Oh man!
Please do pray, but you’re loopy if you think ther’s any chance McCain will dtch her.
I’m sure that there are plenty of Republican women who abort their kids, but having been in the pro-life trenches for awhile, I can tell you the vast majority of those who abort are Dems and non-voters.
One time a nurse came out of the clinic in Rocford and told one of my pro-lifer colleagues that he shouldn’t bother protesting because all their customers were “[N-words] and whores” so in her opinion the world was better off if we kept them from having kids.
Not exactly heavy GOP demographics.
If that were true (that she was already obviously pregnant) the “Trig is Sarah’s grandson” kerfuffle never would have happened.
It doesn’t change the fact that Jamie Lynn was the star of a show aimed at preteens, and it doesn’t change the fact that my other ponts are valid.
I don’t buy celebrity tabloid trash. Cute pic of the future VP though.
At five months it is obvious that a woman is pregnant.
I agree that this happens, but you seem to have this odd habit of ignoring evidence that runs counter to your point.
I’m out there in the field and I’m telling you that most of the young women are non-political or lean Dem because they’re too young to have gotten a grip and moved to the right, and most of the older ones are Dems.
Feel free to present evidence that contradicts that.
Many women, yes. Again, you ignore evidence that runs counter to your point. If Bristol was so obviously pregnant, why did the bizarros on the left think that Trig Palin was her kid?
The National Enquirer had the story and told the campaign that they were about to run with the story.
However, it is apparent that partisans on both sides want their people left alone and the other side savaged in the media and on the blogs...
...and that captures the essence of the strange ritual we engage in called ‘politics’...and how we delight in poisoning our systems every so many years for the sake of something so poorly carried out in the name of ‘leadership’...I’ve benn visiting a site called 538, a lefty blog masquerading as a polling expert, and it striking how similar the poison is, on either side of the spectrum...
...we nedd to step back, and get a little perspective on things...couldn’t hurt, anyhow...
Thanks for the side-by-side evidence of retouching. What a bunch of creeps. I guess we should be happy they didn’t give her a codpiece—remember how Rolling Stone “enhanced” Algore?
Michelle Malkin has a link to the US comments on this story. You could check out her website to see if you can get there that way.
That's because word had gotten out in Wasilla, where it was common knowledge. But you seem to be changing points. I asked (twice) if she was so obviously pregnant, why did the lefties decide that she was Trig's mom?
Yes! I said the same last night. Her lips, nose and eyes don't look anything like her.
At the very least, I'm sure they picked through a set of a couple of hundred photos to find the least flattering.
I don't think the women of America are going to be very amused at this.
