I disagree that Romney will (in effect be given a free pass IMO) from the Rat Party (formerly the traditional, patriotic Democratic Party) stalwarts in the MSM.
There were bitter exchanges between Romney and McCain as I recall. The airwaves will be full of reminders and demands for explanations will crush both men. IMO.

Michael is missing one point:
If Palin does withdraw, then McCain's judgment will be questioned. That will feed in to the dementia allegations, etc. That will give the Dems even more ammo against McCain-XYZ.
If Palin is forced to withdraw, a Romney replacement will not give McCain a win in November.

Kay Bailey Hutchinson or Joe Lieberman would make the ticket the AARP ticket.
McCain wasn’t causing high levels of interest or enthusiasm before the Palin selection. Hutchinson or Lieberman sure won’t bring in throngs of excitement.
[I heard one report over the weekend that Team McCain was having trouble getting people to come to some gathering for McCain. They couldn’t get enough takers, and had allot of left-over free tickets.]

Sarah Palin could be the energizing force to reinvigorate the party that Ronald Reagan "founded".
Don't tear down someone who is a citizen-based leader. Ignore her looks, if you can't see past them.
I see the horizon with HER on it, not John McCain, or at least leading the charge toward whoever it may be.

OK. I’ve just read the whole thread and heard most of the show. I’m going to give Savage 50% credit. He’s correct that it would be BEST if Palin were to back out now. Savage is WRONG about Romney, though. To prove he’s a true maverick independent conservative, he needs to get Duncan Hunter or Coburn or Inhofe as running mate. If t has to be a woman, ,,,,, I’m still thinking about that. Phylliss Schlafly would be good, but she’s too old herself. Maybe Heather Wilson from New Mexico, but she’s only 50 to 75% pro-life..
