RIP, Mr. Reed.

In the late 70s, I got to see Jerry Reed live at the Ozark Empire Fair in Springfield, MO. He didn’t have his female backup singers with him, so he had his band sing backup in falsetto. It was the funniest rendition of “When You’re Hot, You’re Hot” ever.

Yes ! ... that was my favorite movie he was in .....Survivors as the hitman who Williams asked if he’d wait during a gunfight as he’d brought the wrong ammo and would be right back .......that was funny !

While Reed enjoyed making movies — especially the ones with Burt Reynolds —
he said he never felt properly appreciated or compensated for the
work and star power he contributed.

Loved Reed in “The Survivors”, even if it was a silly film.
Reed was great as the hitman Jack.

Although I’m normally one to avoid films with Robin Williams, I’ll look for this one at the rental shop near the stoat cave based upon Jerry Reed’s performance as well as your recommendation....thanks very much :-)

"...if you want to kill a few hours, there are some awesome clips of Jerry, Chet, and Tommy on youtube."

I'm a bit partial to the Jerry and Chet clip Summertime, with Chet playing the fretless acoustic. Both of those men are gone from us far too soon. R.I.P, Alabama Wildman.

I think JR said "Well... I ainna-gonna do that naw more"

What a legend he was. Thanks for the pings and the posts.

You're quite welcome; I'm delighted that you liked it :-)

I was surprised to learn that 'Amos Moses' was included in the soundtrack to the Grand Theft Auto San Andreas videogame, but I'm glad that a new, younger audience is being exposed to his great music.  Hopefully it will spur some of them to look into his other wonderful albums as well.

Thanks for the ping. I haven’t been on the computer all day because mine is sick.

We know Jerry’s former guitarist and harmonica player. He has told us some great stories about Jerry. He will be missed.

Something kinda funny, Jerry Reed made an appearance on Scooby Doo and sang a song for the gang.

Yea, I have a feeling Jerry was the “real” thing, not like some (ahem) current stars (ROTFL).

Hope your computer gets better.

I think Jerry Reed was one of those actors who really couldn't act. He was just playing himself. Sort of like John Wayne.

When I lived in Western Kansas, he came to town and did a show at the local civic center. I didn't go but several of my co-workers did. They one and all said the same thing. "The best show they had ever seen".

He was just playing himself.

That's what his SIL said about him. What you see is what you get. And I'd agree from the concert we attended. He was having fun doing what he loved to do.

Don't know if he ever recieved CGP from Atkins, but is a PHENOMINAL musician, and that is Roy Clark of Hee Haw fame. Got his SuperPicker album in HS.

If you just think of Roy Clark in Hee Haw schtick, you need to listen to Superpicker. He is really awesome.

Jerry Reed and Roy Clark are in the same boat. To most people they think of them as these “aw shucks” type comic guys that were on Hee Haw and those Burt Reynolds movies.

Made a similar comment to someone. Then read further and came across your post.

I loved his performance in Smokey and the Bandit and the guy was a talented musician as well.

I'd reckon!

Lightnin' Rod

Jerry and friend; Jerry's Breakdown

Them two at it Again! Jerry Reed arrives in Limo to perform Amos Moses, Toledo, 1983

Jerry did Sugarfoot Rag at that show, too!

I remember a line about "that old honeybee who hurts you with his sting." Anyone know the name of that song?

This 'un? Yeah, it sounds like one Jerry would'v covered. If so, try a title search for the old Four Tops tune Same old Song:

You're sweet as a honey bee
But like a honey bee stings
You've gone and left my heart in pain
All you left is our favorite song
The one we danced to all night long
It used to bring sweet memories
Of a tender love that used to be

Now it's the same old song
But with a different meaning
Since you been gone
It's the same old song
But with a different meaning
Since you been gone

A sentimental fool am I
to hear a old love song
And wanna cry
But the melody keeps haunting me
Reminding me how in love we used to be
Keep hearing the part that used to touch my heart
Saying together forever
Breaking up never

It's the same old song
But with a different meaning
Since you been gone
It's the same old song
But with a different meaning
Since you been gone

Precious memories keep a lingering on
Everytime I hear our favorite song
Now you're gone
Left this emptiness
I only reminisce
The happiness we spent
We used to dance on the music
Make romance through the music

It's the same old song
But with a different meaning
Since you been gone
It's the same old song
But with a different meaning
Since you been gone

It's the same old song
But with a different meaning
Since you been gone
It's the same old song
But with a different meaning
Since you been gone
