Evangelicals rally behind Palin after pregnancy news
CNN ^ | September 1, 2008 | Rebecca Sinderbrand

ST. PAUL, Minnesota (CNN) -- Key evangelical leaders rallied to Sarah Palin's support Monday amid news that her 17-year-old daughter, Bristol, was having a child.

"Before, they were excited about her, with the Down syndrome baby," conservative, anti-tax activist Grover Norquist said. "But now with this, they are over the moon. It reinforces the fact that this family lives its pro-life values."

Palin and John McCain oppose abortion and have supported promoting abstinence in schools, which would seem to make Bristol Palin's pregnancy an inconveniently timed development.

But she is keeping the child, a fact that could make the Alaska governor -- whose candidacy has been enthusiastically embraced by evangelicals who regard her as one of their own -- even more popular among that key GOP voting bloc.

"Fortunately, Bristol is following her mother and father's example of choosing life in the midst of a difficult situation," Family Research Council president Tony Perkins said. "We are committed to praying for Bristol and her husband-to-be and the entire Palin family as they walk through a very private matter in the eyes of the public."

Evangelical leader Richard Land also backed Palin completely.

"This is the pro-life choice. The fact that people will criticize her for this shows the astounding extent to which the secular critics of the pro-life movement just don't get it," Land said in a statement.

Hey charlie gibson and george stuffoneupyourbutticus... How you like Sarah now?! These two pukes were trying to assassinate her on abc’s putrid news tonight. I hate them both and Disney should be ashamed that they are even associated with trash like these two. Throw in roberts and sawyer and you have a whorehouse for the dnc!

My Grandmother conceived my Mother outside the bounds of marriage in 1932. She and my Grandfather married and were together until his death in 1996. They were the light of our lives, the best of the best and no one could deny the goodness of these two people. I suspect that they have a very special place in Heaven - for surely a loving Lord saw all of their wonderful works of kindness, mercy and goodness performed in their life together. God Bless them.....

It was the gubmint mandated SEX EDUCATION in the high school where she attended that taught her “sex” outside of marriage was normal and fun. Screw the dnc media arm known as the Lame Stream Media!

Christianity is not about following a set of rules. It is about redemption that is sneeded by all because we refuse to follow THE rules.

The Palin family is, for better or worse, an American family struggling with issues just like other Americans. The Dems piling on will make them more appealing to the majority of voters.

Getting pregnant at 17 out of wedlock is obviously wrong and is frankly a sin (missing the mark). I'm sure the Palins have explained that and discussed that and I hope Bristol understands that spiritually, and that there are also very practical reasons which will soon be experienced by the entire family. All that being said, its a reality. And the beautiful child that is coming is certainly not at fault. And certainly Bristol has not compounded the error, by taking the offer which this twisted world offers her of terminating the young innocent child. The one thing that the liberals and the world in general don't understand about the “Religious Right” and the “Evangelicals” is that they are all about understanding and forgiveness, and love. Especially in this area. No we should not and do not celebrate premarital sex. We need to discuss this in the light of repentance and we should not in anyway hold it up as a righteous or recommended action. It is wrong. However in this case it is a reality and the family must now make the best of it. This baby will be a blessed child, whom the family and all of us should love and welcome. Bristol is now in need of the unconditional love that God has displayed toward all of us. We are all sinners and we all miss the mark at times in our own lives. Certainly let us not celebrate the sin, but let us celebrate the beautiful child that is coming, and the beautiful choice that Bristol has made after the fact.

May God Bless the Palin Family!

I'm not going there--I'm for self-responsibility, and she's not THAT young. I don't blame the school or her mom or anyone else.

The point, though, is how PALIN handled this issue, not that she's the ten zillionth mom who has a kid who does her own thing. How did Palin handle it? She stuck by her convictions. THAT is what I'm getting out of this story.

Just as the Dems are going to regret starting this whole "experience" thing, I think they will regret how this makes Palin look in the eyes of potential voters. Because it makes her look like a woman who makes tough decisions and sticks to her values when messy life happens.

This is exactly what we expected. The liberals can now crawl back into their hole.

Thanks for posting!

Those two events are worlds apart. Two sluts (one sister a superstar slut that swapped spit with superwhore madonna on National TV) from the same family are tramps... drug whores... with dysfunctional parents that are also alcoholic drug abusing trash... living a drug induced horror on TV and in print... OJ styled arrest caravans shown on TV.. and a boy friend and a husband screwing around on both while they are pregnant... and then you have a Christian family dealing with a teenage pregnancy in a way Jesus would be proud. The fault lies in your heart... not the Palin’s.

Messy life... Yes that is well put. And certainly I agree that Bristol is ultimately responsible, and Mom and Dad should at 17 feel the responsibility as well. But we are to blame for the culture we place our kids and parents in. Parents are fighting this evil MTV , reality TV world which pumps continual messages down to these kids that glamorize all sorts of sins and crap. So much so that its now almost unavoidable unless you keep your kids in a cave. Our culture is whacked... and it also contributes to the “messy life” that is unfolding all the time and everywhere. But nothing is new under the sun, and this situation with the Palins daughter is being handled as best as can be. Lets hope for the best as Bristol and Levi attempt to do the right thing for the baby. Yes this twisted and evil generation offers Bristol an evil way out of the situation by terminating an innocent life. Thankfully Bristol is not going to offer her child up on the alter of the god of this world the god our selfishness and twisted behavior and instead has chosen to make the ONLY positive choice. Thank you Bristol for that and may God Bless you and Levi as you repent and move to do the right things moving forward.

“pro-life values”

How long before Kos will bring out this pregnancy as a vast right wing conspiracy that was actually planned months ago to bring out the Christian vote?

That rumor is already going around. These people are pathetic! They see a conservative behind every bush. They need mental help.

We are all human and make mistakes. The Palin family is not anymore perfect than the rest of us. The only good news from this story is that the values instilled in their daughter will allow the baby to live and that the father will do the right thing and be the father within marriage. That is the responsible and honorable thing to do under difficult circumstances. For that they deserve our praise.

Very true. And it also speaks well of the parents that they didn’t pressure her into having an abortion. Quite a few parents push their pregnant teens to have an abortion. It’s sick, but not at all uncommon.

Its not that we are glorifying the premarital sex. But now that she is doing the responsible thing by keeping the baby and getting married, we need to do our part by supporting and encouraging her. Part of what drives young girls toward abortion is the feeling that they will be ostracised if it becomes clear that they are pregnant.

Oh please, you keep repeating that link over and over. However, just because some Freepers may have been very critical doesn’t mean that we all were. I am pretty sure that I remember some freepers on the thread saying that we shouldn’t be so critical and I may even have been one of them.

Unfortunately, on the mainstream news web news comments I see alot of those talking points starting to be repeated over and over. Which is why I don’t think we can just continue to ignore it. Instead we need to go on the offensive - get our own set of talking points as we rally around Sarah and take the fight to the enemy with all guns blazing.
