Well shoot... Russia is a big believer in separatist movements... I totally expect Russia to be magnanimous about this whole shebang... (holding breath)

I believe the correct policy of the US should now be to send ammo, guns and money to anyone who will use them to kill Russians. Not directly of course we could set up the the South Caucus Humanitarian Fund. Of course it wouldn't be supporting military operations, just sending medicine, food and a few thousand editions of the gospel according to John Brown. They want a war, lets give them one.

Sowing the wind, reaping the whirlwind, whatever cliches you want to use. I did note that the Russians are consistent in one thing:

The death of Magomed Yevloyev, an outspoken Kremlin critic...Ingush officials passed the death off as an accident.

"Outspoken Kremlin critic" remains a very high-risk job.

n 1944 near the end of World War II Ingushes were accused of collaborating with the Nazis and the entire Ingush nation was deported to Kazakhstan and Siberia with great loss of life, estimated at up to two thirds.
The Ingush have never forgotten or forgiven Russian crimes against them

Ingushes know that it was Soviets leading by ethnic georgian Josef Dzhugashvilli (Stalin) who exiled them. So they know that it was soviet-georgian crime against them not russian.

So then Russia will do same. It may bring up the fullscale war between USA and Russia. Be careful what you wish for:).

Great map! Thanks for posting it. What this tells you is that from ancient times Russia held on to very disparate peoples by muscle, not inclusion.

Even today, the various peoples that made up Russia do not particularly care for each other.

Ethnic groups and tense provinces WITHIN Russia are taking Putin’s rationale for invading Georgia and running with it...ala Chechnya.

Putin may have opened a Pandora’s box within is own borders.

No wonder he has to spend so much propoganda time looking strong and staging fake tiger shots on TV:

Price of oil is $100/bbl and sinking, btw...

Difference is that Putin will just kill all of them.

Remember, the Soviets perfected anti partisan warfare. They couldn’t do it in Afghanistan because the world was watching, but after WWII they pretty much wiped out the various “Forest Brethren” pretty quick.

Ethnically Georgian? Stalin’s father was Ossetian. So, technically he was half Ossetian. And the Ingush know who’s been stealing their homes and land with Russian help. And it isn’t Georgians.

Let’s recognize them as independent. That will send a message to the Russians.

Stalin was ethnically Russian, he spoke Russian, he held Russian traditions and culture to high regard. And, he was from S. Odessa, which was part of the Russian Empire.
