Certainly he believes that government could have provided the medical technology that might have cured his wife. But his reasoning is purely emotional and not based in the clear historical evidence of the mechanism of medical progress.
The Inside the Beltway sickness is endemic. His good friend, who is my brother-in-law, believes that Sarah Palin was a bad choice, and he is secretly supporting McCain. Although he is normally well in tune with the sentiments of the American public, I think that his assessment is a reflection of the Washington Elite conventional wisdom. I think that he wil change his mind once he gets a sense of how “Real” America is reacting to all of this.
Well, yes, there’s that. However, some of it (not talking about Palin’s daughter, I don’t have a clue what happened in hre case) is on purpose (you might be surprised how many girls get pregnant sorta kinda on purpose). Some get pregnant even using birth control (ok let’s see a show of hands! ;)). Some just think it won’t happen to them, or think if they don’t use something then it’s like it was spontaneous, and for some it’s an issue of drinking and being in situations where things happen. And others as well. But, to imagine they don’t know about contraception, even if their school teaches abstinence is totally and completely stupid.

it was amazing to see! i was sure bill was going to take mort by the throat! the rest of the panel were content to watch mort dig his own hole deeper and deeper with each word. i loved it!
And it's gonna backfire on the MSM big-time, I think. The Palin family has already dealt with this in the best way they could possibly have done. Most normal Americans -- those who don't salivate over sound-bite politics -- will see this for what it is, sympathize with the Palins, celebrate what they have done, and be disgusted with Obama's camp for what they see as his campaign making an issue of it.
Whether or not McCain realized the power of this "issue" (the real issue is really the MSM's disgusting voracity), he got a winner here, too.
I guess Kondracke thinks a pregnant teenager who has decided to carry her baby to term doesn't deserve to be treated as a "real" person, either.
Mort does seem "driven" to attack Palin.
Maybe he placed a BIG bet on Obama winning.
I could be wrong about this, but I believe that part of abstinence training involves how to avoid environments where you would be in a tempting situation. For instance, you go out in groups and to places that are not enticing you to sinful acts.
And with McCain's monster bet on Palin, Mort's chance for a big payoff has just been reduced to a long shot.

It is absurd and ridiculous how anxious the main stream press is to jump all over a 17 year old girl who is supposed to be ‘off limits from the press’ because of ‘family privacy’ yet refuses to investigate or even mention Obama’s connections to Frank Davis, Mike Klonsky, William Ayers, Bernardine Dohrn, Weather Underground, Tonny Rezko....etc

Mort has always been pretty liberal in spite of the fact that he calls himself a conservative. I think I saw what you are talking about. He gave his assessment of McCain’s pick of Palin and you would think McCain had named Charlie Manson. At the end of his rant his face scrunched up he hunched his shoulders and looked like an angry pouting kid. Weird to say the least.
Mort Kondracke was rabidly determined to see Terri Sciavo’s life support cut off. Since then, I’ve had absolutely no respect for him. His instincts are vile.
That’s all we can do is teach our children. There comes a time when they have to decide for themselves. Even the best of families have this happen to them. It’s part of life and nothing can change it but...am glad the Palin’s are standing by their daughter. Glad the young man is stepping up to the plate as well. It takes two to tango and she didn’t do this by herself.
