It was, more or less, an open secret. And everyone was saying the same thing: the governor's 17-year-old daughter is pregnant, the father is her boyfriend, and it's really nobody's business beyond that.
I happen to agree.

I was surprised, too, to find it there and at the (unusual) common sense the reporter showed.
Great..GREAT article.
Lovely.
Thanks for posting.
It’s a wonderful article...you should read it.
I agree. I posted the excerpt from Mr. Thornburgh's story because it appears that he, like you, saw perpetuating the gossip as a bad choice.
this aticle made me feel alot better about all of this...
we are going to be just fine!!
I grew up in a town of 350 souls, now 1200, but everyone knew the news except the one making it, they were always the last to know. Little towns are great, and when the town is isolated from roads, everyone does know everyone, very well. Alaskans in small towns are pretty tightly knit.
It sure sounds that way.
Of course it will be fine, I’m just sad you had to have TIME tell you that..lol.
Well, of course! We can at least send gifts. :)
Maybe this is Time realizing that they want to be on the positive side of the new administration!
Which no doubt is why he had this to say to ABC News:
"Let me be a clear as possible: I have said before and I will repeat again, I think people's families are off limits," Obama said, "and people's children are especially off limits."This shouldn't be part of our politics," he continued, "It has no relevance to Gov. Palin's performance as governor, or her potential performance as a vice president.
"And so I would strongly urge people to back off these kinds of stories," he said. "You know my mother had me when she was 18, and how a family deals with issues and, you know, teenage children, that shouldn't be the topic of our politics and I hope that anybody who is supporting me understands that's off limits."
...
The Democratic presidential nominee said, "There is no evidence at all that any of this involved us. I hope I am as clear as can be so in case Im not, let me repeat: We don't go after people's families, we don't get them involved in the politics. It's not appropriate and it's not relevant."
Nothing to argue with on that!
Good article, thank you Nathan.
I love that picture.
The part about the fake hunters was quite funny.
A REAL Christian is one who has accepted Jesus Christ as their personal Saviour. It has nothing to do with personal opinions.
Somebody most of America had never even heard of four days ago has generated a lot of respect and admiration in the meantime (having earned it over the long haul).
Now if this was a celebrity pregnancy (Tom Cruise, Jolie, etc. etc, etc,) these same media morons (all Democrats) would be celebrating it with supportive articles oozing with love and blah blah blah.
But with a Republican, it’s a scandal?
At least it won’t join the trashcan with 40 million aborted babies and a horde of post-birth infanticides supported by Obama.
Nope, you are the first
At any rate, it’s hard to imagine any 17 year old in this country NOT knowing how to prevent a baby. It’s not a matter of giving them information. That’s NOT the problem.
