ST. PAUL -- The 17-year-old daughter of Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin is pregnant, Palin said on Monday in an announcement intended to knock down rumors by liberal bloggers that Palin faked her own pregnancy to cover up for her child.

If you've been following "Deadliest Catch" and do the mental arithmetic, the crew members earn more than many doctors and lawyers do in the lower 48.
You're wrong. Most families will believe it to be a private matter, not one for publicity.
This is not just directed at you, but at everyone with a similar response. As many parents are painfully aware, you do the best you can to instill values and impart knowledge and cautionary tales to ones’ children. However, you cannot run their lives every minute of every day and sometimes kids do dumb things. This isn’t the first time a 17 year old let their emotions get the best of their judgment. What DOES matter is how one handles premarital pregnancy. IMHO choosing to marry the father says a few things- she believes a child needs 2 parents together as a family, and that the father wants to be a dad to the child. I think they are making the best of it and more power to them. The family should be congratulated for handling it as best they could. I do not think this makes Palin a bad choice. I think (unfortunately) PLENTY of families have had to deal with teenage pregnancy. The good thing is she is showing a good example by keeping the baby and marrying the father. Just as her mother showed a good example by keeping her down syndrome baby.
Rather than being an example of lapsed morals or family value hypocrites, I think the Palin family is the opposite- they are an example of doing the right thing, and a GOOD example of FAMILY (marriage and children) values.
Love it and want it.
Interesting and irrelevant.
All this does is keep up Palin’s dominance of the news cycle, which Obama thought he had to himself.
He did, for a whole 12 hours.
NO
I'm nominating that for post of the day!
They "grow up" young up in Alaska. Track Palin, joined the US Army on September 11, 2007; and it is not clear by "news" accounts if he was even 18 when he joined. He is reported to be 18 years old now, almost a year after enlisting.
And now Sarah Palin's daughter is pregnant at 17. I don't know why there are so many people here who are wringing their hands over this news. The Palin's statement on this "BREAKING NEWS" tells us what kind of family the Palins are:
"We have been blessed with five wonderful children who we love with all our heart and mean everything to us."
"Our beautiful daughter Bristol came to us with news that as parents we knew would make her grow up faster than we had ever planned. As Bristol faces the responsibilities of adulthood, she knows she has our unconditional love and support."
"Bristol and the young man she will marry are going to realize very quickly the difficulties of raising a child, which is why they will have the love and support of our entire family. We ask the media, respect our daughter and Levi's privacy as has always been the tradition of children of candidates."
Briston Palin chose not to have her baby murdered and sucked out of her uterus. The Palins raised a good daughter.
that is a left wing load of garbage
In the face of human failings, the Palin family’s daughter and future son in law are doing the right thing.
They are choosing life.
they are choosing marriage.
LEAD by example.
Surrender monkey BS is for the left.
Remember noonan said it best “the foes of the republicans will try and kill palin and kill her fast.”
Could you spell out the exact reasons she should give for stepping down?
You people out there that want crucifiy like Pharisees need to shut up and support a family doing right from within their own heart instead of just outward signs.
Are you blind can you not see that this is STILL a model Christian family!
Oh...so..who WILL they vote for? Obammy? Or sit home like little brats "protesting" & accomplishing nothing but a victory for the enemy
Thought provoking posts such as yours are why FreeRepublic is one of my favorite websites.
It happens. believe me.
This is no reflection on you but sometimes teens become defiant.
Often, the tighter the rules the more a kid will rebel.
I dont wish to paint all children of Preachers with that brush, but it does happen.
Some people don’t believe in birth control.
I was countering the slime by Andrew Sullivan and Alan Colmes who suggested it this week-end.
To me it doesn’t matter. Given the state of American culture today (and since I grew up in the 70’s) some girls will get pregnant before they get married (if they ever do get married).
In reforming our culture, we need to take it step by step.
Hammer home the fact that Sarah’s daughter is marrying the father and keeping the baby rather than doing what Obama would do (so as not to “punish his daughter with a baby”).
That alone would be a message that so goes against the grain of the current popular culture that, if it has an effect, will move us toward the goal we seek. I honestly don’t believe that we can ask for more at this point.
Not great news, it’s always unfortunate when these things happen to people. But what stands out to me is that they are keeping the baby and Bristol is going to marry the father.
Apparently the Palins taught their kids how to accept and deal with their mistakes.
Realistically, it would have been much worse if Bristol had aborted the pregnancy with her parents’ permission. THAT would have been a nightmare.
I'm on board. Show the Left how Conservatives handle news like this, we celebrate life, show support for the mother and shower them with love. They grab a phone book and start looking in the A's.
As long as John Edwards isn’t the father, I could care less.
