It's a mistake made by a young daughter but it was a fact not withheld from John McCain in his decision and he wisely understood that his chosen VP candidate did not make the wrong choice herself nor should she be punished for it.
If anything, tough family choices and decisions regarding unexpected pregnancy make Sarah Palin more understanding of the issues of raising a family.
If your child makes a poor choice, do you abandon your career or try and make the best of whatever happens and move on?

I haven’t been thrilled with this pick but he was vetting the mother and not the daughter. Just because her daughter chose to be irresponsible and have (possibly unprotected) sex before marriage doesn’t mean that those were the values the mother taught. Sometimes great parents breed kids who behave poorly.
Given Sarah’s own eloping with Todd timing, it may be that she in fact passed down the same values.
This is not the 1950s.
At least the daughter is marrying the father and not aborting the baby.

This endears Palin even more to me. I too had a brilliant and beautiful seventeen year old daughter that became pregnant. My grandson is now thirteen years old, and his mother is an accomplished, executive who makes six figures per year, and has a beautiful family of three wonderful sons!
How many Americans have experience this either directly or through a family member? Palin is honorable and showing dedication to her child in the way this is being handled.
Kudos to Palin - - may God be with her family during this time of extreme duress. They will come out of this the stronger and more blessed.
Well, they could have made sure their daughter was on birth control.
Some people make way too big a deal out of premarital sex.

there was a blurb about one of Biden’s sons and a brother being subject of a lawsuit for fraud in a hedge fund ... of course, we don’t know much about it as the MSM isn’t covering it any more than the Berg suit.
Hopefully Bristol Palin marries sooner rather than later ... if she’s five months along, they might want to get this done quickly for the sake of the baby.

The Palins are going through what lots of families go through. So what? At least they don’t regard this as punishment.
Best to get it out there now. No point in waiting until it built up a frothy head of steam in the rumor mill and looked like she had something to hide.
I agree that it continues to draw stark comparisons to Obama’s stance on abortion and his statements.
