now im a bit young, but when people where drilling oil out of the ground

where they whining about the tax breaks or did they just got filthy rich out of them

seems the new energy needs taxed bodies to be robbed in order for new barons to be made

False! JJ Hill’s Great Northern was built completely honestly with zero cash stolen from taxpayers!

AND his was the only railroad not to go under. What a coincidence.

Let the “alternative” energies compete in the market where they can either become efficient enough to be actual alternatives, or go out of business without being propped up with massive subsidies (but of course, the only reason the lefties support them is that they are expensive and impractical).

"False! JJ Hill’s Great Northern was built completely honestly with zero cash stolen from taxpayers!"

It appears Uncle Sam will not spend taxpayers bucks. Looks like he will receive fewer. Tax breaks for investors. Sounds good to me.

One problem occurs when existing utility companies must take alternative fuels electricity without being able to pass on sufficient rates. Another problem occurs after the tax incentives run out. Then, rate payers will be saddled with the excessive maintenance costs.

Not until the trust busters (who were in the pay of Union Pacific) got a hold of him. Hill had a plan to merge his railroad to a Pacific Ocean based steam ship company. He thought he could sell New England and Midwestern goods in China. The US government nixed the plan. Most everyone in the House and Senate at the time had stock in Union Pacific.

This is a bad investment for the country.

They should drop wind and solar tax breaks.

They should put in 100 year tax breaks for hydro and geothermal.

These are stable power sources that aren’t effected by the whims of the wind.

The "government" cannot make an "investment." The office holders can only steer money one way or another, and do so usually to feather their nests. They do not take on the risk of private enterprise, and have no fear of wrong decisions. Our senators and congressmen grow rich on spending taxpayer money, for whatever, a loony bridge to nowhere, a study of the mating habits of the fruit fly, a noxious overpriced memorial statue. It is good at election time to have an important story to tell about their exploits beneficial to their constituents, but it is totally wrong for these people to determine where capital investments should be made.

They have no idea how to invest the nation's wealth in a wise manner. And only numerous conflicts of interest (opportunities for corruption) in spending such funds. The people, through the free market, should decide what make sense to invest in - not these shoddy, corrupt, elite creeps who have managed to get elected to office. It was a major point of the Constitution. The people only are left to enforce this concept.

I agree with all you had to say.

But good luck with that last part -- "the people" have mostly abdicated enforcement to those who are to be enforced.

Ditto for ethanol. If all the tax subsidies for producing ethanol from seed to the gas tank were collected at the pump, $4 per gasoline would seem cheap.

“A big part of the problem is uncertainty,” said Marie Lee, a tax analyst with the American Electronics Association. “Our companies are getting tired of this game.”

Wow. Talk about a sense of entitlement. This bozo must think that government subsidies are supposed to continue forever rather than giving a temporary boost to jumpstart R&D.

Nanosolar is managing to produce solar cells at less than $1/watt — meaning they will be profitable without any tax credits. If it wasn’t impossible for them, why is it impossible for all the other players in the solar industry ??
