Palin impact minimal so far, poll says(Palin erases 0bama bounce)

One of the first national polls weighing the impact of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as the Republican vice presidential nominee shows little change in a tight presidential race. The CNN/Opinion Research Corp. survey released tonight gives the Democratic ticket of Senators Barack Obama and Joe Biden a 49 percent to 48 percent edge over the Republican ticket of Senator John McCain and Palin. That compares to a tie at 47 percent each when voters were asked earlier in August to choose between Obama and McCain, without their running mates mentioned. The survey, which was conducted Friday through Sunday, found that Palin seems to be making a good first impression, though a significant number of voters don't know her. She was viewed favorably by 38 percent of voters and unfavorably by 21 percent, while 20 percent had not heard of her and 21 percent said they had no opinion.

0bama gets a small post convention bounce which is quickly erased by McCain picking Palin for Veep. The media's spin is that Palin isn't helping McCain.

Foon Rhee = Fool Retard

The Palin pick wipes out a most likely 10 point bounce.

Yes, if you ignore all polls except Gallup then this is true. However, considering the Gallup poll indicates a much larger swing to Obama then anyone else, it’s conclusions are highly suspect.

There is more good news out tonight. The new Time / CNN poll, conducted entirely after the DNC convention shows Obambi/Plugs - 49, McCain/Sarahcuda - 48.

They had Obambi +5 before the RAT convention so he actually had a negative four point bounce in their polls after his convention.

Rasmussen showed a 4 point bounce and Gallup 8. The events of the convention and the veep pick happened close enough together for it to be difficult to determine exactly what happened. I do believe that there was a small 0bama bounce that was erased by the Palin pick. They were expecting 10 points.

However, considering the Gallup poll indicates a much larger swing to Obama then anyone else, it’s conclusions are highly suspect.

Gallup does not screen for party affiliation. They interview whoever picks up the phone.

As a result, they usually show bigger swings than other pollsters because Democrats are more likely to be willing to talk to pollsters after positive Democrat news (like their convention) and vice versa.

You are correct. I had two windows open and responded to the wrong thread.

Apologies to all.

That would be a splat.

If I recall correctly, Kerry had a decent bounce out of his convention in 2004, and Bush didn't move until the Republican convention wrapped. I could be wrong.

If it is tied now, Obama is in trouble.

Well after the convention when America gets a closer look at Palin I wonder how the media will try to hide the bump McCain will get? Will we only see weeks old polls while they try to bail the water that the ship Obama is quickly taking on?

Either this writer is completely stupid, or he thinks we are. This comes under the category of “Sarah can’t swim” after being seen walking on water.

That’s what I’m thinking too. It seems like these people (Dems)_are always way ahead at this point.

Obama should be up 6-9 points in every poll.

He's flat with McCain in every poll but Gallup's, it seems.
