When I lived in Chicago, there was a Down Syndrome kid who bagged groceries at the local supermarket. They kid had more sunshine than the whole state of Florida. Everybody enjoyed getting in “his” checkout line.
I grew up with a neighbor who has Downs and she remembered me, and my family, 30 years later. I always thought she was one of God’s miracles, too sweet and loving to be on this earth. Sarah and her husband certainly are the chosen ones to be bestowed such a gift as Trig. God bless them all.
Hear. Hear. Amen, indeed.
I’ve heard many stories such as this one about individuals with Downs Syndrome. And he is right. They are a light in the world.
God bless them all, and their loving families.
Very moving column about a young man with Down’s Syndrome!
Prediction:
As Sarah becomes VP, then President, there will be a new awareness of Downs, in the most positive way ever.
No Downs baby will languish unadopted, and far fewer doctors will push families toward abortion who otherwise would have chosen to keep their baby.
I have a disabled son...thanks so much for posting this...
Indeed. Amen.
This won’t be one of my more popular posts, but she needs to address Trig’s early-childhood care question soon.
The Dems are going to torch her - and many people are going to agree - that a mother of a 4-month old Down’s child has no business being VP with the intensive amount of parental - PARENTAL - care needed for a Down’s baby.
Her husband is going to have to publicly state that he is quitting his job and being a full-time Dad to Trig. Any notion that the baby’s going to be relegated to “professional” assistance/care of any kind will hurt the ticket. Like it or not, with the amazing blessing and example this has the potential to be, Palin CANNOT leave people with the image of a mom too busy being VP and a dad too busy with his fishing boats to provide 24/7 care and attention to Trig.
She has to address this soon or I fear this could, indeed, become Harriet Miers II. Feel free to disagree, but there is a good point made that Trig should be priority one for her. If it’s clear that dad will be home full-time, it will be resolved, if not, look out... it’s a blinding, glaring unguarded flank that they need to - for all the right reasons - pay attention to and resolve...
There are so many facets in which a Palin VP can be a bounty of good. They have to go all the way with Trig and demonstrate a total at-home commitment by dad while mom is serving the nation. If they don’t, this is going to get ugly, quick.
