Philippians 3:13-14

Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

Dear Heavenly Father, I come to You today Lord first thanking You for the blessings that You have given us in this land. We have freedom. We have a beautiful country. We have clean water and clothing and shelter. We have so much more that other countries do not have that it is humbling. Lord, let those who are called by Your name learn not to take these things for granted.

Father, I lift up President Bush today. With the Hurricane coming down in Louisianna, the pressure is on him and the Republican administration to react in a certain way. Lord, I pray that the people would get out of New Orleans and that all officials involved would act in an efficient and effective manner. Give the President Wisdom and help him to get the job that needs to get done, done, and done well.

Father, I lift up John McCain to You Lord. His relationship to You is a bit of a mystery since he doesn't go that deeply into His faith; but, regardless of where he is spiritually right now, I pray that You will draw him into the center of Your will. May he know Your strength as never before in coming days of this election campaign.

Father, I lift up Sarah Palin and her family. They are under attack, Lord, and when the media can't find something on someone they go about reporting on ridiculous rumors. Protect her and protect her family, Lord. Let the darts that are being flung their way bounce off like rubber bands and let no weapon that is formed against Sarah, her husband Todd, and children Track, Bristol, Willow, Piper and Trig prosper. Fight for them, as You have fought for Your children so many times and may you be glorified in this family's life, in the candidacies of McCain/Palin,and in the final electoin.

Go with us the rest of this day I pray. For it is in the blessed name of Christ Jesus my Lord that I pray these things. Amen.

AMEN SISTER AND GRACE TO ALL CHRISTIAN PATRIOTS!

“Thou, Lord, hast made me glad through thy work.”
- Psalm 92:4

Do you believe that your sins are forgiven, and that Christ has made a
full atonement for them? Then what a joyful Christian you ought to be! How
you should live above the common trials and troubles of the world! Since
sin is forgiven, can it matter what happens to you now? Luther said,
“Smite, Lord, smite, for my sin is forgiven; if thou hast but forgiven me,
smite as hard as thou wilt”; and in a similar spirit you may say, “Send
sickness, poverty, losses, crosses, persecution, what thou wilt, thou hast
forgiven me, and my soul is glad.” Christian, if thou art thus saved,
whilst thou art glad, be grateful and loving. Cling to that cross which
took thy sin away; serve thou him who served thee. “I beseech you
therefore, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living
sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.”
Let not your zeal evaporate in some little ebullition of song. Show your
love in expressive tokens. Love the brethren of him who loved you. If
there be a Mephibosheth anywhere who is lame or halt, help him for
Jonathan’s sake. If there be a poor tried believer, weep with him, and
bear his cross for the sake of him who wept for thee and carried thy sins.
Since thou art thus forgiven freely for Christ’s sake, go and tell to
others the joyful news of pardoning mercy. Be not contented with this
unspeakable blessing for thyself alone, but publish abroad the story of
the cross. Holy gladness and holy boldness will make you a good preacher,
and all the world will be a pulpit for you to preach in. Cheerful holiness
is the most forcible of sermons, but the Lord must give it you.
Seek it this morning before you go into the world.
When it is the Lord’s work in which we rejoice, we need not be afraid of
being too glad.

Wonderful Mystery
As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us. —Psalm 103:12
The headline in our Grand Rapids Press wasn’t good news. Fifteen million gallons of partially treated waste water suddenly disappeared from a storage lagoon in a water treatment facility. Just outside the small town of Sand Lake, Michigan, a 500- by-500-foot pond disappeared into a sinkhole.

The problem was that nobody knew where the wastewater went. According to a county spokesperson, “It will depend on where it went before we can say what happened.”

As I read the article, I imagined all the wrongs of my life as being like that missing filthy lagoon. In my clearest moments of faith, I can say in all honesty that I really don’t know where they went, but they are gone. The last time I saw the real guilt of my envy, anger, and impatience, they were all nailed to the cross of a Man suffering for wrongs He never committed.

Where did my guilt go? The Bible gives me answers that I can’t really understand: buried in the deepest sea (Mic. 7:19), as far as the east is from the west (Ps. 103:12), erased from the eternal books of heaven’s justice (Col. 2:13-15).

No, all I can really understand is that I owe unending gratefulness, praise, and honor to the One who bore our sin—a mystery of inexpressibly good news.

Praise, my soul, the King of heaven,
To His feet thy tribute bring;
Ransomed, healed, restored, forgiven,
Evermore His praises sing. —Lyte

When God forgives, He removes our sin and restores our soul.
