My first thought is that this sort of scrutiny has to be really hard on the 16-year-old girl in question. And my second thought was that IF this turns out to be true, I'll find it a really scary example - perhaps the most scary example of anything I've seen in a long time - of a politician who would do anything to get elected.

And if this IS true, Sarah Palin has opened her daughter up to a rough ride by exposing her family to the national press. The mainstream media only recently found itself badly burned when tabloids and bloggers completely scooped them on a salacious rumor (John Edwards' affair) that turned out to be 100% true. You can bet the press won't let this happen again, and I guarantee you that there are reporters in Alaska right this minute, poring over school, birth, and travel records, as well as looking at every photo of this family that they can get their hands on.

I concur. With Sarah Palin on the ticket McCain wins with an electoral landslide. The American voters will fall in love with this grand lady. Also, I cannot wait to cast my vote for her in 2012 for POTUS.
Sarah Palin will do for the G.O.P., and our nation, what Ronald Reagan did.

And yet the NYT and th LAT had the story on Edwards for almost a year and didn't publish it. Gee, I wonder why?

The McCain camp should produce a multi-celled image with birth certificate thumbnails on the right of McCain and Palin, their spouses and kids. McCain's, himself, should be the largest thumbnail, top dead center on the right side of this image. And, on the left side, thumbnails of Obama, Biden, their spouses and kids. Again, Obama's featured prominently on top, dead, denter.
Any ORIGINAL Birth Certificates not made available should be left blank.

That's my thinking as well. This is only a scandal in the eyes of the pro-abortion crowd.
Read it again. Look for the word “pregnant.”
To the point of not being able to react to the situation without stuttering and fumbling politically.
Ummmm, she was already "elected" at the time - AND she had no idea McCain would pick her. I doubt this is true - but if it was, it would be an example of a mother doing "anything she could" to help her daughter.
The MSM will do the bidding of the dems and they'll go after her with both barrels. This type of rumor will become more common.
We are supposed to believe covering up a Teen pregnancy, if it were true, would preserve conservative credentials?
That is a far stretch by any imagination.
Cheney’s daughter is an openly gay and his conservative credentials remain intact.
Then again, if covering anything up, would they allow photo’s of the daughter from the time period to be published?
This allegation falls flat on its face when a little common sense is applied.

It should be ended promptly and decisively by the McCain campaign, before it saturates every voter's mind. That's what the Democrats are trying to do. The campaign should crush it now, without delay, and with all appropriate umbrage. It's insulting--infuriating--and far outside the bounds of decency. Every day it's ignored, it spreads further.
