Women are not fungible.
I dont know if anyone sitting around with John McCain in the last few days has explained that to him; frankly, I dont know if there even were any women sitting around with John McCain in the last few days. But, I think I understand a few things about Hillarys base in the Democratic party, and why so many women have been so loyal to her, and if John McCain thinks that simply picking another person with similar anatomy is going to win their votes, hes about to learn a very important lesson in gender politics.
Nothing again Sarah Palin. To be honest, I dont know her. She is a newcomer to the national scene, new enough to make Barack Obama look like an old-timer.
She has been governor of Alaska for less than two years. Before that, she was mayor of a town in Alaska that is smaller than my immediate neighborhood. Sort of makes serving in the Illinois legislature look like secretary of state. She had the guts to take on the corrupt Republican establishment in her state, and she deserves credit for that.

Frankly, I was afraid he would pick Colin Powell, whose stellar credentials and accomplishments would have given a feel of experience and solidity to the Republican ticket and eliminated entirely the racism argument for not supporting Obama that might have clinched this election.
But he didnt.
Maybe Powell wasnt available. Maybe the problem was that he was pro-choice. Whatever it was, while the selection of Palin will certainly change the conversation quickly, it only underscores the questions about experience that have been the core of McCains attack on Obama. Only this time, they will be asked of the Republican ticket.

She’s just upset that he didn’t choose a rich old white guy with liberal leaning views from inside the beltway. She is afraid of change.
Yes, Sarah reduced her pay to benefit the taxpayers.
Shrillary looted the People’s house to fill her own coffers.
Yeah, there’s a difference.
We knew it all the time. The democrats were only trying to manipulate women by acting like they cared. They supported Hillary because she was a leftist. The same thing they do with blacks. At least now they admit it.
The sweetest thing I keep focusing on about Palin’s recruitment is the sight of her smiling husband behind her.
The message is sweet and clear and as a woman I am grateful there are real men who get it.
What we see here is the true emancipation of a modern, intelligent and loving/beloved woman - no strings attached.
Now there is a partnership.
“Sarah Palin Is Not a Stand-In for Hillary Clinton”
That’s right....Hillary was the stand in until a real woman came along!
She's even married to a guy whose a member of a recognized Eskimo tribe, who presently works for BP.
Not going to draw all the comparisons though, you can do the hard work yourself. But take a look at the way he deals with his mother. In his minds eye she is a figure who stands astride time and space and meets all challenges. He is in awe of her.
McCain has selected a VP candidate who Obama, himself, cannot criticize nor will he allow others to do so to the degree possible.
Could be an interesting election.
Make the other guy focus on issues!
Suze, you say that like it’s a bad thing.
that would be good! when they were campaigning against each other inthe primaries, they had a lot of crap to say against each other.
The wisdom of campaign director susan estrich, who gave America President Dukakis. I wonder if she has that tank picture framed.
